Khamoshiyan - Silences Have Secrets Review

By BollywoodMDB Team - Jan 30, 2015 11:44 AM

Rating: 2.5/5

One-line Review: First-half takes up the show, while second-half brings it down!

Positive Points: Melodious music album, Gripping first-half of the film

Negative Points: Hurried Climax, Same old creepy formula

Plot: One-book wonder Kabir (Ali Fazal) is upset with his life because of his falling career and failed relationship. Therefore, he sets himself on a journey to the beautiful valleys of Kashmir to find a fresh story for his next novel. That's when he meets mysterious yet enticing Meera (Sapna Pabbi) who owns a guest house.

This creepy guest house belongs to Meera's husband Jaidev (Gurmeet Choudhary) who is bed-ridden with an unknown illness. Even after knowing about this, Kabir gets irresistibly drawn towards Meera and even she reciprocates, but there's something that is holding her back.

To find out the mystery behind Meera's lasting silence, Kabir steps in by tracing some hidden dark secrets of her haunting past.

Direction and other technical aspects: 'Khamoshiyan - Silences Have Secrets' is Karan Darra's directorial debut, yet it has the same old Bhatt camp flavor to it. He has done justice to first half of the film, but has spoilt the show with hurried second half. Before the audience could sip in the climax, he has rolled down the end credits, which is highly disappointing. Still, he owns the praises for making the bold scenes look sensuous without crossing the thin line of vulgarity.

As compared to his recent horror films, Vikram Bhatt has done a decent job while scripting 'Khamoshiyan'. No wonders, Kashmir is a masterpiece in its own rights yet when he comes on the screen through cinematographer Nigam Bomzan'a lens, it looks beautiful beyond words.

Performances: Ali Fazal is getting better with his every film. Being a desperate lover and a lost novelist, he has tried his level best to bring his act into the picture and that is evident with his performance.

Sapna Pabbi, you are going to love this lady for her seductress avatar. But she still needs to get her acting skill polished.

Gurmeet Choudhary has made the optimum use of his extended cameo. For whatever time he is there on the screen, he will either strike you with his devilish persona or impress you with his chiseled body.

Music: Music is the USP of 'Khamoshiyan', which is jointly composed by Ankit Tiwari, Jeet Ganguly, Bobby-Imran and Naved Jafar. The title track "Khamoshiyan" is truly mesmerizing, "Tu Har Lamha" celebrates the feeling of being in love and "Baatein Ye Kabhi Na" is a heart-breaking track. Other songs are also good, but these three remain in the highlight of the album.

Final Verdict: 'Khamoshiyan - Silences Have Secrets' can't be termed as a wonder of the horror genre, but it has definitely something out of the box than those usual spooky films of Bollywood. This time Bhatt camp has something new to offer, go check it out!
