Rating: 3.5/5

One Line Review : The movie is just perfect for you if you like the slice of life stories.

Positive Points : The screenplay, direction, the powerful performances of the actors, cinematography

Negative Points : Nothing to mention.

Plot : Kai Po Che is based on famous author Chetan Bhagat's well known novel 'The Three Mistakes Of My Life'. But the director has made some changes in the story in the film. Set in the background of Gujrat, Kai Po Che is the story of three young men, their friendship, their life and their dreams. The story unfolds in the backdrop of year 2000 when the new century has just dawned. Ishaan Bhatt(Sushant Singh Rajput) , Govind Patel(Rajkumar Yadav) and Omkar Shastri aka Omi(Amit Sadh) are the three best friends since childhood. The trio is inseparable. They are like 'All for one and one for all'. The director describes them as 'Brothers for life'. Ishaan is a quitter, impulsive and short tempered guy who couldn't make it to the national cricket team. He wastes all his time in watching cricket on Television. His father admonishes him in public. While Omi's father is a Pujari. His maternal uncle Bittu Joshi (Manav Kaul) is a big political leader who insists him to join his political party. And Govind is a quiet guy who just wants to earn money by becoming a successful businessman. Govid is the most balanced guy out of the three. Govind has the head for business and he has the idea of opening a sports shop. They couldn't find any other financial support and get money from Omi's uncle. They set up the sports shop cum tuition cum cricket coaching academy named as Sabarmati Sports Club. Accidently , Ishaan discovers a young gifted cricketer Ali Hashmi (Digvijay Deshmukh) and convinces Ali's parents for his training. Ishaan dreams of Ali playing at the national level and that's why he wants to nurture and coach Ali perfectly. Meanwhile Ishaan requests Govind to teach his sister Vidya (Amrita Puri) mathematics. After some days, all the three friends want to open a big shop in the mall which is under construction. They again get financial help from Omi's uncle to buy a shop in the mall. Now, Omi joins his uncle's political party, Ishaan completely donates his time in the cricket coaching and Govind teaches Vidya mathematics. Eventually the duo come closer and fall in love. Everything seems to run smoothly but destiny's plans are something different. Whole Gujrat gets struck by horrifying earthquake and all the dreams of these three young men get shattered.

What happens to Govind Ishaan and Omi's shop?

Will the three friends be able to get success in their business ?

Will Ishaan be able to train Ali further?

Will Omi, Ishaan and Govind's strong friendship will survive in the struggle with the altering circumstances?

For all these answers , grab the tickets and watch the movie.

Direction And Other Technical Aspects : The director Abhishek Kapoor truly deserves an enthusiastic response and applause for his brilliant direction. He narrates the emotional story of the three friends so well that the audiences really get involved in the characters. Abhishek Kapoor is the fantastic storyteller. Like his first venture 'Rock On!' he again got successful in narrating fabulously the tale of friendship of three enthusiastic young men and how they stand the test of destiny. The screenplay of the movie is awesome and the director has made the needed changes into the script. He added lots of new twists and turns to the original story. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra also deserves accolades for choosing the actors perfectly. The director has shown lots of maturity by not showing the louder and over the top scenes of Gujrat massacre and riots. His way of showing these incidences was refined yet expressive. He also swiftly shifts to the climax without showing any melodramatic scenes. The cinematography by Anay Goswami is marvelous and compliments the story.

Performances : All the three actors Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Rajkumar Yadav have given absolutely fabulous performance. They fit into the character so perfectly that we get totally involved with them. Amrita Puri looks beautiful and delivers a good performance. Bittu Joshi aka Manav Kaul looks impressive and Ali aka Digvijay Deshmukh appears innocent and cute. Other supporting actors including Asif Basra (Ali's father) also gave a good performance but the star of the show is Sushant Singh Rajput. His acting is just perfect and he looks very natural and fresh. Ultimately , Kai Po Che works out because it's brimming , it has a solid content and the actors give a superb performance. Watch it because it really deserves an acclaim and encouragement.

Music : The film has a good music given by Amit Trivedi. He has done his job well by giving a melodious music to the film. His music complements the story. All the tracks play in the background and are really touching especially Shubharambh and Mithi Boliyan sun lo are a treat for the listeners.

Final Verdict : Kai Po Che is a movie which is different from others. Though it is not a great film but watch it for its story execution. We can say that Kai Po Che is first-class che! But don't compare it with '3 Idiots' which was just perfect and flawless.
