One-Line Review: 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania': A quirky adaptation of 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'.
Positive points: Cuddling chemistry of Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, Smart adaptation of 'DDLJ', Foot-tapping Punjabi Songs, Alia's Wardrobe.
Negative points: Missing End, Low on logic script.
Plot: Ambala based Kavya Pratap Singh (Alia Bhatt) agrees for an arranged marriage with the only condition, where she clearly states- "Dulhe me meri choice nahi hai... kum se kum lehenga to meri choice ka hona chahiya." So she heads to Delhi to buy a designer lehenga worth five lakhs for herself. There she meets Rakesh Sharma a.k.a. Humpty Sharma (Varun Dhawan), who falls in love at first-sight with her and goes out of his way to fulfill her silly dreams. Seeing his "Oh-So Caring" nature even Kavya falls for him.
But back home, Kavya's marriage preparations are going on. This halts their affair for a while, until Humpty lands to Ambala with his two best buddies. He tries to convince Kavya's dad, Mr. Singh (Ashutosh Rana), who tells him to find at least one reason why Kavya shouldn't get married to this perfect NRI guy named Angad, chosen by him.
Direction and Other Technical Aspects: Debutant director Shashank Khaitan has done a decent job by portraying this smart adaptation of 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', which perfectly suits the current scenario of relationships in the year 2014. His well written screenplay will keep entertaining the audience. Only place where the script falls short is at the end, where few questions remain unanswered like how come all of a sudden Mr. Singh got agreed to marry Kavya with Humpty? And then where did Angad disappear?
The film is well shot in some of the real locations in Ambala, Chandigarh, Khan Market and Delhi University.
Performances: Alia Bhatt is improving with her every film, in this film flares around being a typical early-twenties girl, who is mad over designer outfits and wants to look best in her every move. Varun Dhawan is just too good. Right from his effortless dancing to the portrayal of his prankster character Humpty, he has excelled in it. Plus, his sizzling chemistry with Alia is a treat to watch.
Sahil Vaid and Gaurav Pandey as Poplu and Shonty, respectively, will surely tickle you with their engaging humour. Ashutosh Rana has also done a good job, playing stern yet kind hearted father of Kavya.
Music: The foot-tapping music of 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' is composed by Sachin-Jigar and Sharib Sabri-Toshi Sabri. "Samjhawan" is a soulful sad track sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. "Saturday Saturday" is in itself a chartbuster, which is an ideal song to get on the dance floor. Other Punjabi tracks of the film, "Daingad Daingad", "Lucky Tu Lucky Me", "D se Dance" and "Emotional Fool" are also good to keep your party spirit alive. While, "Samjhawan Unplugged" happens to be one of the peculiar part of the film's album as it is voiced by Alia Bhatt.
Final Verdict: 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' will surely entertain the audience to its fullest. Except for the ending part of the film, where the audience might feel that something is missing.
