FERRARI KI SAWAARI is a Hindi film which released on 15th June, 2012. This was one of the most awaited films of this year because people who were behind the making of this film, such as Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani, had given 3 blockbusters in a row such as 3 IDIOTS, MUNNA BHAI M.B.B.S etc. But there is a little change in the list of its crew members. This time Rajkumar Hirani was associated with its writing and editing department only. Rajesh Mapuskar has directed this film. So does this film live up to your expectations and entertain as you were entertained in 3 IDIOTS, MUNNA BHAI M.B.B.S etc. Read ahead the review to know it.
Story : Rustam (Sharaman Joshi) mainly known as Rusy in the film loves his son Kayo (Ritvik Sahore) to an extreme extent. Of course every father loves his son; but his relation with his son is a bit different. He does what he preaches. He is not a kind of person who preaches his child not to tell lie but he himself keeps telling lies in front of his child. He works in RTO but also helps the traffic police to get the traffic cleared. His son Kayo is fond of playing cricket and he also plays cricket very well. In fact he is the captain of his team. Rustam's income is not so high yet he tries his best to give his son everything which he needs such as bat, shoes, etc. to play Cricket successfully. There is a very good bonding between father and son. Boman Irani is the father of Rustam whose relation with his son and grand son is different. He doesn't like Rustam to encourage Kayo so much in the field of Cricket. One day, Rustam breaks the bat while playing at home. Just the next day Kayo had to play an important game. How Rustam manages to give his son a new bat is very dramatic, suspenseful, funny as well as emotional. The manner he arranges money to buy a new bat is very comical.
Well, Kayo's coach is very much impressed by him. There is good news for them because someone from London comes here to select a few players to go to Lords to get training. Everyone knows that Kayo would surely get selected but his coach also knows that he won't get selected because if selected, the candidate had to pay INR 1.5 lakh as training fee. The coach knows the financial condition of Sharman Joshi so he feels sorry for him.
But Sharman does not give up hope. He wants to make this impossible task possible through all his means. His father is not convinced that he would be able to send Kayo to Lords. In fact he doesn't want so much money to be wasted for this purpose because he believes that finally only 11 players have to play for India and rest have to spend watching TV sets only.
But Sharman gets determined to arrange 1.5 lakhs for his son.
In this context Sachin Tendulkar's Ferrari happens to be stolen from Sharman's hand; which means he didn't mean to steal his Ferrari but circumstances are created in such a manner that the Ferrari is stolen by him.
Well, what are the circumstances which make him to steal Sachin's Ferrari? How does he manage to escape with such a costly vehicle? He has stolen his Ferrari just for a few hours; he is not going to sell the vehicle, instead he aims to return it. What is the mystery behind stealing Sachin's Ferrari? How Sachin's Ferrari is going to help him in getting 1.5 lakhs? When Sachin's Ferrari is stolen, what happens? Is he gets caught? Is he able to send his son to Lords?
Well, there are many more questions which are answered in the remaining part of the film.
Acting : Sharman Joshi has done a brilliant job in this film. In fact he has done his best till date. He had done some touching scenes in 3 IDIOTS and same you can see here. He has also done some comedy scenes very well. Boman Irani as usual is good. He has justified his role to full extent. He doesn't look the grandfather of Sharaman Joshi in this film yet he has performed very well. Ritvik Sahore, the child artist is excellent. He is very impressive and wins your heart through his powerful performance. He is not naughty; he is not 'shaitaan'; instead he is a lovely character/child in this film who will win your heart. Paresh Rawal as Dilip Dharmadhikari has very little to do. He appears for a few minutes and vanishes. The lady who demands Ferrari has done her part brilliantly. The coach Satyadeep Misra is also good.
Vidya Balan appears in an item 'lavni' song which doesn't leave impact as expected.
Script : The story, screenplay and dialogues are written by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajesh Mapuskar and Rajkumar Hirani. All have done very good job. Characters are well defined. Most of the scenes are very powerful. Dialogues are very meaning full, powerful and funny too. The writers have created some scenes which are very comical. However, screenplay is a bit loose which makes the film a bit slow. Sachin's Ferrari is stolen and above all it is running on the roads, yet it is not the talk of the town is something you don't digest. How can any layman "आम आदमी enter into Sachin's residence and take out his Ferrari is what doesn't convince you! It could have been made more convincing!
Music : Pritam has failed to create the magic with his music what he used to do in his previous films. Background music is good but songs are not appealing. They are okay only in the film. Once you get out of the theatre, you would not be tempted to listen to the songs again. Of course, one song, 'Mara Re Sixer-Mara Re Four' may be played again and again when any Cricket tournament will take place. Otherwise this song is not meant to listen to again and again.
Cinematography : Sudhir Palsane has captured the locations very well. The film appears bright and fresh due to the DOP Sudhir. No shaky camera movements!
Direction : Rajesh Mapuskar (who has also associated Rajkumar Hirani in direction in the films LAGE RAHO MUNNA BHAI & 3 IDIOTS), has done his job very well. His shots and takings are good; choices of locations and narration of the film is good. He hasn't moved the camera in shaking manner. Like Rajkumar Hirani, he has avoided vulgar and cheap comedy and kept some scenes clean and fresh. However, he has not chosen the music wisely which may prevent it from getting huge success. At the end also when you feel that the film has come to an end, again a new thread pops up which was not required.
Plus Points : Message of the Film; Some Powerful Scenes; Powerful and Comical Dialogues; No Vulgarity or Cheapness
Minus Points : Music; Screenplay a bit dragged; Stealing Sachin's Ferrari looks illogical and unconvincing!
Conclusion : The writers and the director have tried to send a good message with clean comedy which the audience will like. They have created some characters and scenes which will surely make you smile and even laugh. A good message is told in a good and entertaining way! This is a clean film for family hence family audience will get attracted towards it but at the same time it lacks good music which may prevent some audience from coming to the theatres. Also, this film is based on father-son relationship and the story is for a limited audience so it may prevent many to visit the theatres. But simultaneously, its content revolves around Cricket which is the favourite game of all Indians so mass may get attracted towards it. It is very difficult to make a comical film based on Cricket but this team has done it successfully!
Verdict : A good film! A film for family! A film for Cricket lovers! A film for parents! A film for all because it is a family entertainer! A must watch for every citizen of India to make India and children's character better!
