One-line review: Akhil's misfortune introduces him to the best friend of his life in Entertainment.
Positive points: Quirky one-liners, Foot-tapping music
Negative points: Predictable script sidelines the real hero- Entertainment from 'Entertainment'
Plot: Akhil Lokhande (Akshay Kumar) does odd jobs to fetch money for his father's (Darshan Jariwala) medical expenses. But then he comes to know that all his hard work has gone in vain, as this man is not his real father. He is the son of a rich diamond merchant Panalal Johri (Dalip Tahil), who cheated his mother. When he was yet to recover from this shock, he hears about the death of his original father in Bangkok. Surprisingly it makes him happy, as miser Akhil has finally got a key to success by becoming rich over the night.
Excited Akhil heads to Bangkok to takeover his father's fortune. But then the next news scatters all his dreams as lawyer Habibullah (Johnny Lever) discloses Panalal's will, according to which his father's faithful dog- Entertainment (Junior) is the successor of all the wealth. Meanwhile, Akhil also has a girlfriend named Sakshi (Tamannaah Bhatia) whose father (Mithun Chakraborty) has challenged him to be a millionaire to marry his daughter.
These all circumstances have left Akhil with no other option than killing his four-legged rival Entertainment, or else he has to lose his girlfriend and his much deserving wealth.
Direction and other technical aspects: Best-known dialogue writers of Rohit Shetty's films, Sajid 1 Farhad have turned into director with 'Entertainment'. They made their full attempt to tickle the audience with their one-liners, but when it comes to direction it was not that impactful. Though they had an interesting plot subjected on the unconditional bond of man and dog, yet they failed to evoke those emotions. After a point their quirky jokes became an irritation.
Script-writer K Subhash took an interesting plot to pen, which took off pretty well in the beginning. But in next half-an-hour, the story started loosing its hold and became too predictable with the time.
Performance: Akshay Kumar as Akhil Lokhande will make you laugh over his silly attempts while haunting the golden retriever before the interval and continues the same prank post interval but with villains. Golden retriever Junior as Entertainment, after whom the film is named gets sidelined in this poorly managed direction. Still he is different from other dogs as he can read books, as shown in the film. Tamannaah Bhatia as Sakshi comes across as a TV actress, who uses her typical "saas-bahu" melodrama to emote her feelings.
Krushna Abhisheik enjoys Akhil's "kicks and gaalis" and goes all the way to Bangkok to help him. He is a DVD seller who strictly uses Bollywood actor names while talking, for example- "Sameera Reddy, Steady Govinda" and "Jaisi karni, waisi Mamta Kulkarni". Johnny Lever has also done a good job, he plays Panalal's lawyer who loses his cool when someone mispronounces his name "Habibullah". Baddies of 'Entertainment' Prakash Raj and Sonu Sood have a comic creature in them, inspite of being a villain.
Music: The soundtracks are composed by Sachin-Jigar. Starting with "Tera Naam Doon" is a romantic track sung by Atif Aslam and Shalmali Kholgade. Inspired by a nursery rhyme "Johnny Johnny" is a perfect party song that will make the listeners realize that they are no more a kid. "Nahi Woh Saamne" is melodious song pictured on the unconditional friendship. "Teri Mahima Aparampar" is yet another foot-tapping track from the 'Entertainment' album, while "Veerey Di Wedding" is an idle song for Sangeet ceremony.
Final verdict: The filmmakers had a chance of creating wonders with this genre, but they missed it. 'Entertainment' will prove disappointing to the dog-lovers who are paying the price to watch golden retriever in the film, as he has got sidelined in the whole show. Only the fans of Sajid 1-Farhad one-liners will be entertained till the end, as the film is flooding with the punches.
