One line Review: Realistic Performances, striking plot and execution of the script, a believable and cute love story.
Positive Points: Realistic and power pact performances by the actors, the background setting of the 90s, a very unique script and exceptional story telling. The Slice-of-life style tale keeps us involved with its characters and story since the very beginning.
Negative Points: There is not much to complain about in the film as it involves simple setting and proper execution except for a few unnecessary sequences in the second half dragged without reason.
Plot: The film's central character is Prem Prakash Tiwari (Ayushman Khurana), a school dropout who has not done much in life and runs his father's music cassette shop, also a big Kumar Sanu fan. Prem has no life of his own and usually tends to act as per his family and friend's influences. Prem is forced by his overbearing father (Sanjay Mishra) to get married to Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar) an educated and lively girl. Prem rejects her for being horizontally-challenged but eventually had to give up before his father.
The story unfolds as the stubborn Prem refuse to accept Sandhya only because as for him she is not beautiful as other girls. Sandhya however has accepted the uneducated and good for nothing Prem and is trying to give the marriage a chance in spite of the various unfavourable circumstances. The best part about Sandhya is that she is confident and an independent thinker who stood up for herself when the time demanded. The twist lies in the question that how does Prem who is so obsessed with outer beauty will ever fall for Sandhya. How love blossoms between the two is fun to watch.
Direction and other Technical Aspects: Taking up this exceptional concept, director Sharat Kataria has done a remarkable job. The story telling is brilliant. The setting, the plot everything scores full points. The dialogues are fun, witty and realistic which adds to the overall success of the execution.
Performances: The film is a delight to watch because of the flawless and remarkable performances by not only the leads but also by all the supporting characters. This is by far the best performance of Ayushman Khurana. He just perfectly fits the bill and does full justice to his role. The newcomer Bhumi Pednekar must receive all the appreciation for the incredible performance in her debut film. All the actors who essayed the supporting roles gave an outstanding performance.
Music: The songs in the film come at the correct timing and are precisely composed. 'Moh Moh ke Dhaage' is a beautiful classical melody by Monali Thakur and Papon. 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' is another average song from the film, 'Tu' by Kumar Sanu revives the era of his evergreen songs. 'Sundar Sushee'l is a song with perfect lyrics while 'Dard Karaara' is a song which takes you back to the 90s.
Final Verdict: The film 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' is a light hearted, fun film which truly succeeds to bring smile on your faces. The film is worth watching due to its interesting storyline and concept. It is a cute love story but not a typical one. It is a film that can be thoroughly enjoyed with friends and family and an absolutely delightful flick for everybody.
