BREAK KE BAAD is a Hindi feature film produced by Kunal Kohili (who earlier directed many hit films). This film is directed by Danish Aslam and it is his first film as a director. The film is also written by the debut director Danish Aslam.
Cast: The casts of the film are Imran Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sharmila Tagore, Navin Nischol and others.
It seems that this film is inspired by Deepika's hit film LOVE AAJ KAL directed by Imtiyaz Ali. Though the producer Kunal Kohli denies this, But the film LOVE AAJ KAL had similar story and even Deepika was in the main lead in that film.
Story: Abhay Gulati (Imraan Khan) and Aliya Khan (Deepika Padukone) are childhood friends. Abhay's father (Naveen Nischol) is in theatre business whereas Aliya's mother Sharmilla Tagore was an actress in Navin Nischol's theatre group. This is the main reason why Aliya and Abhay came close together from childhood as friends which turned into love when they grew up.
But Aliya is an ambitious girl. She wants to become an actress whereas her mother is against it. She wants to discover the world, become an actress, and lead an easy life without having to be bothered about responsibilities.
However, due to some reasons (Abhy's love erupts as an obstacle in fulfilling her dream to become an actress) there is a break up between the relationship of Aliya and Abhay. Aliya makes a decision to go away to Gold Coast, Australia to follow a course in mass communications, even though she in fact wants to run away from all those who are close to her and follow a career in acting.
Aliya and Abhay try to make their relationship even they were away from each other but insecurities sneak in. A time comes when Abhay too flies to Australia. When he lands up there, it pisses off Aaliya who is feeling muffled in her relationship and she breaks up with him. The movie then shows you the story of the two ex-lovers after their break up. So the story is about what happens after the two lovers break up.
Script: There is nothing new in the film. You might have seen similar films in the past few years. The script of the film is written by the director itself. The script is not gripping and has many loopholes. It becomes irrelevant at many places. The screenplay is written by two writers: Renuka Kunzuru and Danish Aslam which is also not written properly. It is really amazing how a geat director like Kunal Kohili approved such script. The film was made with an intention to please the young generation but it seems that it won't be able to please any group. It is neither for old people nor for young generation.
It would irritate you to see the reason why Aliya drops her boyfriend like a hot brick. You would not like Aliya's character there because she had no valid reason to do that. Girls want and covet her boyfriend to be committed and handsome and loyal and Abhay is full of these qualities yet Aliya breaks up her relationship with him. This is the worst part of the film.
Performance: Deepika is the only highlight of the film. She looks gorgeous and has acted brilliantly. But her character in the film is such that you may not like it before the film ends. Imraan Khan has played his role in a nice manner but he needs to change his selection of roles. He needs to upgrade himself from chocholati boy to a rough and tough man.
Navin Nischol has performed well in the role of Abhay's father. Even Sharmilla Tagore is good but due to less footage, they are almost wasted.
Music: Music of the film is given by Vishal-Shekhar which is average. 'Dooriyan' is the only song which can be mentioned in good category. Rest of the songs are just average.
Recently a film of Sonam Kapoor had released in which Aisha keeps away from Abhay Deol and keeps fighting with him till the end. In the end she realizes that she loves Abhay Deol and accepts his love. The film didn't do well due to it. Same could be the fate of the film Break Ke Baad because at last moment Aliya realizes that she loved Abhay.
Direction: The director fails to impress you at many places. Since he himself had written the script, he could have done better but couldn't utilize the opportunity. Some of his takings are good but for a good film taking doesn't matter much if your content is not strong and good. You may shoot a scene in many ways, by dividing the scene in various shots but you can't change the content. You can change the location and the artists, but you can't change the content. Hence you should choose a subject with good content. Without a good story and screenplay all your effort to make a good film will go in vain.
Conclusion: It is not an entertaining film in any respect. There is nothing in this film except Deepika Padkukone which could impress you.
Verdict: A boring film. You can watch it only if you have extra money to spend on unnecessary things.
