Storyline
As the name suggest, this comic-flick is centered on the life of a salesman named Rocket Singh, who is a B.Com graduate with 39% marks. By achieving some bitter experiences in his earlier job, he leaves it and opens his own company named Rocket Sales Corporation. The excellent customer service makes this company very successful. This success also invites the anger of companies in similar field.

Hey, what's going on in film industry? I guess they have buckled up now to show the world that they are not behind anyone for any reason. After a mind blasting movie series they have another rocking flick "Rocket Singh", directed by Shimit Amin, taking the Indian film industry ahead and that too rocket fast. As it unarguably stands among the few recent movies representing the superlatively Growing Hindi Film Industry. In short the best time of the year is here with another worth watching movie for all the desperate viewers after the last week's gem "Paa" and "Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani" as it represents Ranbir Kapoor in yet another different avatar. Shimit again returns with another brilliant work which with again a huge contribution coming from his previous writer Jaideep Sahni. Shimit's is now surely graduated in giving his films delicate treatment of the subject that never slides down and maintaining a solid grip on the movie and the viewers right till its impressive climax. Interestingly, you can make this conclusion that all the incidents that is stated in the movie strongly point towards some similar personal experiences of either Shimit or Jaideep in their past. Jaideep wonderfully comes up with the most original description of his characters quite close to his previous flicks which also revolved around Delhi and its Punjabi culture. Taking into account all their works together in the past, the writer-director duo is a great team in formation and you can easily expect many more brilliant projects coming from them in the near future. While watching "Rocket Singh" you will surely not find the usual bollywood kind of stuff that has the same ages old mixture of horrifying action, blooming love & forced comedy. Many of my friends did not like appreciate the movie much, but I felt that for a change this movie is simple and refreshing and that too with everything just in the right proportions as required by the situations. The movie doesn't have any story between that is not necessary nor any unwanted song that came from nowhere just to make the movie monotonous. Infact this story a great attempt made by a thinking team strictly to compete with other world projects which are usually based on variety of subjects written around our day to day routine life. The story is about a fresh and honest graduated young boy who is searching for a decent career opportunity and as he always knew that sales field is the coolest he gets into it. His evil minded colleagues and seniors in his office help him alter into a clever and strategic businessman. But as explained before (evil minded), in the process of his alteration he also has to decide on for some immoral means and starts using his present sales job office and resources for his own personal benefit. But what is to look at is that the original plot not only put light on the leg breaking and cut throat competition in the Sales career but also enhanced the story by showcasing the difficulty faced by the innocent and blameless customers due to the mal practices adopted by these service providers. The film begins slowly and starts catching on the viewer's attention with its to the point narrative and highly realistic sequences. In fact, most of the you will find it very easy to relate with various characters in the script as they portrayed just like the real life people we meet in our day-to-day life or even you yourself. Well if talking about the performance showground there are appreciating things to state about almost everyone in the cast and even in the crew. Ranbir Kapoor have once again excelled made the whole Kapoor clan feel proud of their young energetic and hardworking kid as he is portraying the character of a Sikh salesman and with no doubt he is looking so much real that while watching him on screen, not even once you feel that he is in a fictional get up of a Sikh. His choice of projects after the unexpected previous debacle, he clearly proves that even he is gifted with cinematic sense and intuition power like others in his family. In simple words he just gets into the body of Harpreet Singh Bedi as a soul delivering an effortless, furiously enjoyable and the most impressive performance of his career. Other characters like, Prem Chopra has delivered an impressive cameo. Gauhar Khan does her role of a receptionist really well and she has surely got the oomph factor to burn the screen in her. Shazahn Padamsee looks fresh and confident as Ranbir's customer cum friend. The casting done for the film is perfectly chosen as they skillfully acting as true to life realistic characters, and how to forget the computer engineer and his sexy glowing desktop in the night. The only possible mistake for the lack of interest in the viewer was that the marketing team of "Rocket Singh" has incorrectly promoted the film as a comedy flick. The promos where Ranbir is dancing to the tune of "Pocket Mein Rocket Hai" that clearly giving an idea of the movie being a funny take on office politics and life of a salesman. Whereas in your perception surely changes after watching the film as it's a sensible story of a young fresh graduate who tries to make an impressive and confident mark in his very first job as a salesman. However, it has many comedy sequences coming in at regular interval throughout, but still that does not allow anybody to simply call it a comedy movie. Therefore, once again it is an example of wrong promotion tried by the makers to bring in some more crowds in the opening weekend. But again for the warning purpose I will state that it is not just a comedy flick go for it if you really want to see a fresh, cool and uplifting movie completely different from what we have been seeing in all this year. Cinematography is nothing exceptional and Salim-Sulaiman music is just above average as always with all the songs used shortly and wonderfully along with the background score. In short, "Rocket Singh" is one of those few movies which are rarely made without thinking of any flattering box office results. If majority of the viewers like it then that could be concluded as a good sign of progress being made in the Indian Cinema. People who like to explore the bollywood new choice of subjects and have a desire to change their taste and perception towards bollywood then this movie is highly recommended to them.
The director Shimit Amin and the writer Jaideep Shahini are back with a remarkable film Rocket Singh: Salesman of the year which is produced by Aditya Chopra. Its story & characters are unique & different and the film is close to reality. In real world all wish to become Doctors or Engineers or Chartered Accountants or any public servant. Hardly anyone wants to become a salesman, just because selling is considered to be a very tough job & most of the time this job seems to be temporary. If a salesman doesn't fulfill the target or doesn't bring good business, he is fired, irrespective of his qualification. But the protagonist of this film chooses to be a salesman. Most of the times, Salesmen tell lie to their customers. But this film is about a true salesman Harpreet and the situations he has to face for telling the truth. Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) is brought up by his grandfather (Prem Chopra) with real values of life. He is taught to be true. But unlike his friends, Harpreet is a mediocre student who scores very less marks in his graduation examination. So unlike his college-mates, he neither could join MBA (due to low marks), nor could he join his family business (As his family is not rich). So what would he choose as his career? He feels that his persuasion power is very strong so he could become a very good salesman. So he chooses sales job. Eventually, Harpreet gets hired in the sales team of a computer selling and servicing company AYS where his ruthless boss sets unrealistic targets for his team. After joining his favorite job, Harpreet gets surprised to discover many dark sides of the corporate world. His honesty and commitment become his greatest enemies. He witnesses receptionist being wooed by busy managers for early appointments; he witnesses security guards being bribed by others in exchange of informations on rivals. He doesn't like all this because he believes in right way to achieve success. To his shock Harpreet encounters bribery when he visits his first client. He gets shocked & furious, as he had never expected this. As a result, he tries to complain about his client to the concerned department. However, what does he get in return? Reward? Forget it! When his boss comes to know it, he shouts at him in an insulting way. He calls him a fool who had no knowledge of the tricks of the trade. So instead of reward for his honesty, he is rewarded with a demotion. He is barred from going out-door to sell any more products and asked by his boss to work in-door staying with his company till his training period ends and then quit. Harpreet gets unhappy with the company's policies. When he finds out that his company used to sell computers to clients with false promises of after sales service, he feels bad. His company did not give after sales service to the customers once the products were sold. He feels bad for the customers. When Harpreet meets Shazahn Padamsee he strikes with the idea of running his own business. Thus he sets up his own company naming it Rocket Sales & gradually ropes in all the key staff members of his own office making them equal profit partners and soon becomes a big business threat to AYS. They work hard with honesty and diligence which gives them great success and eventually Rocket Sales becomes the rival of AYS Company. The boss of the AYS Company gets alarmed and tries to find who his major rival was. So does he find out who his competitor was? If yes then how & what is the result is the rest of the film. The film has talented ensemble of star cast, though most of them are unknown actors & new to silver screen. Ranbir Kapoor, Prem Chopra, Gauhar Khan, Manish Chaudhary, Sunil Puri are some of the casts to be mentioned. This film also introduces Shazahn Padamsee. Ranbir Kapoor has done winsome performance in this film. He plays his part beautifully & convincingly. Day by day his acting is achieving perfection. He is not the same guy of Saawariyaan. Ranbir's boss Puri and colleague Nitin too have done wonderful job. Prem Chopra is fantastic. Mukesh Bhatt performes well as Chhotelal Misra. D. Santosh too is good. Gauhar Khan fits into her character & leaves good impression. Puri (Manish Choudhary) who plays Ranbir's ruthless boss is fantastic in his role. He is often seen in TV ads. Overall, all the artists have performed well in this film. Jaideep Shahni's has written the script of Rocket Singh very meticulously, who also had penned down memorable films like Khosla Ka Ghosla & Chak De India in the past. It won't be exaggeration if we say that the script of the film is the real star. It seems that the writer has worked hard on the subject like the director Madhur Bhandarker, and picked real life characters & real life situations. The film would be very much liked by all sales persons who must be facing those situations shown in the film. Their bosses must be setting non-achievable targets for them. Jaideep Shahni himself has written its dialogues too which are witty & provides light moments. Shimit Amin has again done excellent direction after Chak De India. But the first hour of the film is a bit slow, which could have been better. However he has told rest of the story in a beautiful way. But the film lacks musical songs. Salim Sulemaan's music is also not up to the mark. It can be said 'average.' Cinematography by Vikash Nowlakha's is up to the mark. When Ranbir's test is taken at an interview at a sales company, Harpreet's interviewee asks him how he would sell a pencil to him. His answer is very interesting. He answers, "Pencil has multiple uses. You can use it to write, if not you can use it to clean your ears, brush it through your hair, convert a three-pin plug in to a two-pin plug and if you have nothing to do at all, you can simply rotate the pencil on your table for time-pass." The audience would come across some lights moments like this. The film Rocket Singh lacks romance & or songs which could be played repeatedly. So many people may feel their absence. But it is better than those films where songs pop up uselessly. This film may not pull the masses at the very outset but would be appreciated by them later on. It is a well made film which is worth watching. Millions of youngsters would get inspiration from this film.
