Wow, after watching this, I feel like I have seen a whole new world. The weather was so cold, but watching this made my body even warmer. The movie is so excellent and don't say because it is a Shah Rukh Khan film, it is beautiful because of the nice performances. Priyadarshan also did a great job transforming his mind point into such a great movie - You can tell he has visualized the movie before filming it. Billu Barber tells the story of a simple ordinary man, Bilas Rao Pardesi [Irrfan Khan], living in a small town with his wife Bindiya [Lara Dutta] and two kids. His life undergoes a drastic change as superstar Sahir Khan [Shah Rukh Khan] visits the village for a film shoot. Everything changes. Things go from good to bad to worse to good again. The story takes an interesting turn when Billu's life collides with the superstar's. And the assorted characters -- right from an aspiring poet/lyricist [Rajpal Yadav], to a stingy money lender [Om Puri], to the principal of the school [Rasika Joshi] -- everyone wants favours from Billu. These characters only make Billu more interesting. Priyadarshan is adept at handling relationships and with Billu Barber, he proves he can handle emotions with as much flourish as comedy. To tell a simple, uncomplicated story, without the usual frills, is an arduous task indeed and Priyadarshan tackles the material with remarkable ease. The humour here is subtle, not loud, and a constant smile remains on your face all through. The screenplay is gripping and the cinematography was carefully done making a wonderful job. The music is the best part of this review. I am in love with "You Get Me Rocking and Reeling", then I love "Mar Jaani" and "Love Mera Hit Hit". The music is so energetic and all the item numbers sparkle. My personal favorite is Deepika Padukone because she looks so sexy, but I love Kareena Kapoor's too because she shines and also Priyanka because she glows with finesse. "Ae Aa O" is also a great track. The entire album is memoriable. Irfan Khan is so real in his character and we all know Shahrukh did great. In fact, it is better than "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi". Lara Dutta springs a pleasant surprise. She goes through her part with complete understanding. Om Puri is excellent. Rasika Joshi is too good. Rajpal Yadav is really funny in the penultimate scene, when he recites a film song of an shahrukh film. Overall, the movie is fabulous, energetic, great performances and it is recommended highly as a family movie. It will make you smile. Just like me while writing this review. WATCH IT!
The first part of the movie was a little over the top in some comic scenes and a bit of a drag. The movie moved to a tolerable status just before the intermission and onwards. It started with a cheeky letter asking for a loan. Whether Billu was just a simple man or a smart alec wasn't clearly defined. After all the characters in the village Budhbudhe were introduced it too abruptly shifted to some spaceship kinda setting and SRK was introduced as the star Sahir Khan with an item number one. Billu (Irrfan Khan) is a hairdresser (trying to be politically correct) in the sleepy village Budhbudhe. His business is in a bad state owing to the entry of Modern Madan. He is the butt of all jokes, his wife (Lara Dutta) is dissatisfied and the kids have a smart mouth. But life goes on until Sahir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) and his entourage comes to the village for a shoot. Don't understand why the people greet the movie star by throwing papers at him and was surprised to see that the roads in the village were so much better and nicely tarred than the ones here in the city. News spreads that Sahir (who wears really flashy jackets) is Billu's buddy and he is put on a pedestal and when his attempts at meeting with Sahir goes nowhere, he is derided. Then we have the men crying - Billu for the humiliation and Sahir reminiscing about his good old friend. Then Billu goes back on the pedestal yet again and both friends have a very emotional reunion. Bring out the hankies!! SRK goes one step further and takes a dig at the whole Khan wars when pushed by the obnoxious Dubeyji. It's an okay watch if you have some company and food at hand as the movie doesn't really absorb you too deeply.
SRK IS VERY VERY THIRD CLASS ACTOR IN BOLLYWOOD AISE ACTOR KO DHAKKE MAR KE IS DESH SE BAHAR NIKALANA CHAHIYE. Mumbai, Feb 11, 2009: Shah Rukh Khan and controversies go hand in hand, be it Billu Barber or no Billu Barber. In fact the whole Bollywood industry is fed on controversies. Some films get a lot of viewers when controversies are exploited dexterously by actors, directors and producers. Some films are killed by controversies when directors and producers are unable to handle the controversies rightly. Controversies are raked up at convenience and are killed as quickly. This helps the movies to catch everyone's attention. Several movies in Bollywood are hyped, and the love affair of its star cast is breaking news on every channel, right before or after their release. Just days before Ghajini's release a court stayed its release. The film that went on to become one of the biggest Bollywood hits gave heartburns just before its release. The Madras High Court put on hold the release of 'Ghajini' after a copyright violation suit was filed by the producer of the original Tamil version. The suit was filed by A Chandrasekharan against the producer of the Hindi version, Allu Aravind, director A R Murugadoss and distributor Adlab Films

FRIENDSHIP IS A BOND WHICH IS ABOVE EVERYTHING AND CAN LAST FOREVER IS THE MAIN PROTOTYPE OF D MOVIE. THE MOVIE IS A NEW AGE KRISHNA -SUDAMA TALE TOLD IN A SIMPLE MANNER WHICH CAN TOUCH UR HEART IF U R VALUE UR FRIENDS OTHERWISE ITS A WASTE OF TIME. BILLU(IRRFAN KHAN) LIVES IN A VILLAGE WITH THE HOTTEST CHICK OF THE VILLAGE i.e HIS WIFE(LARA DUTTA) ALONG WITH THIER TWO CHILDREN. THE PAIR SEEMS SO MISMATCHED THAT U WONDER HOW BILLU GOT THAT CHICK WELL ANYWAYS HE HAS FINANCIAL PROBLEMS AND THE WHOLE VILLAGE MAKES FUN OF HIM UNTIL SAHIR KHAN(SHAHRUKH KHAN) THE SUPERSTAR COMES TO STAY IN THE VILLAGE TO SHOOT A MOVIE WHICH LOOKS LIKE A COMBO OF DON, KRRISH, BICHHDE HUE BHAIYON KI KAHANI(70s KIND OF MOVIE), BILLU BARBER,ETC.ETC.ETC.ETC.,ETC.ETC. AND DURING HIS STAY HOW BILLU'S LIFE GETS COMPLETELY CHANGED AND BECOMES MISERABLE AN THEN AGAIN COMES BACK TO NORMAL IS THE PLOT OF THE MOVIE. IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS SIMPLE STORY, WE GET GLIMPSE OF GLAMOUR U JUST CAN'T IGNORE WITH ITEM NUMBERS FROM DEEPIKA(LOVE MERA HIT),KAREENA(MARJAANI) AND PRIYANKA(YOU GET ME ROCKIN AND REELING) AND THE BEST THING IS THAT THEY ALL LOOK AWESOME ESPECIALLY KAREENA AND PIGGY CHOPS.THE BIGGEST FLAW OF D MOVIE IS THE KIND OF HUMOUR USED WHICH HAS NOW BECOME TOO REPETITIVE, WHILE WATCHING THE MOVIE U FEEL LIKE WATCHING ANY OTHER PRIYADARSHAN FLICK LIKE HULCHUL, MAALAMAL WEEKLY TYPES AND NOTHING NEW APPEARS FOR U TO APPRECIATE. ITEM NUMBERS WHICH ARE HIGH ON SPUNK AND LOW ON CHOREOGRAPHY ALONG WITH SHAHRUKH KHAN'S COUTLESS APPEARANCES DISTRACT U IN B\W AND TAKE U TO THE WORLD OF CELEBRATION FROM THE SIMPLE WORLD OF BILLU. CINEMATOGRAPHY IS AT ITS BEST IN ALL THE VILLAGE SCENES AND THE DIALOGUES WITH A PINCH OF RURAL TOUCH ARE IRRITATING AT TIMES BUT HELP IN MAKING U LAUGH MANY A TIMES. THE MUSIC BY PRITAM CHAKROBARTY IS VERY-MUCH HEARABLE AND HAS ATLEAST ONE SONG FOR EVERYONE WITH CAPTIVATING LYRICS PENNED BY GULZAR SAHAB AND THERE ARE SOME SONGS LIKE KHUDAYA KHAIR( VOCALS- SOHAM, MONALI, AKRITI KAKKAR), MARJAANI(VOCALS-SUKHWINDER SINGH, SUNIDHI CHAUHAN) AND JAAUN KAHAN(VOCALS-RAHAT FATEH ALI KHAN) WHICH ARE REALLY FANTASTIC AND SOME FITS INTO THE MOOD OF THE MOVIE PERFECTLY. DIRECTION FROM PRIYADARSHAN SIR HAS NOTHING NEW NEW TO OFFER THOUGH ITS HIS 75th FLICK AS A FILMMAKER. OF THE CAST IRRFAN KHAN EFFORTLESSLY DELIVERS PERFORMANCE OF A LIFETIME AND IS LOVEABLE, LARA DUTTA ALSO FITS INTO HER CHARACTER AND HAS UNDENIAL PRESENCE AND ALL THE OTHERS JUST HELP IN MAKING IT A COMEDY FLICK. SHAHRUKH KHAN'S PRESENCE IN D MOVIE IS WHAT MAKES THE MOVIE SPECIAL AND IF U WATCH HIS CLIMAX SPEECH U WUD AGREE WITH ME. SO IN THE END I JUST WANNA SAY GO ON ITS A SIMPLE AVERAGE FLICK MIXED WITH FLAWS AND MERITS AND IS WATCHABLE ONLY IF U LOOKING FOR FUN OR TIMEPASS CINEMA. JUST DON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH AND ENJOY SO MUCH!
