Charlie Chaplin....This name is self-explanatory. He is a global celebrity. People who aren't even fans of movies are aware of Charlie Chaplin's contribution to cinema, such is the late icon's fame. The actor from Modern Times, who has literally held the spotlight for decades, is also alleged to have a sadistic attitude toward women. Yes, you read that correctly!

Aspiring performers use his slapstick comedy as a Bible to help them advance and develop their careers. But few people realize that Charlie Chaplin had a nasty side that treated women, especially his adolescent brides, with persistent harshness. The actor who played Hitler in a 1940 picture reportedly dreaded desertion and loss, which led to trust issues, and with the smallest provocation, that man known for his comedy used to transform into a vicious human being.

Charlie Chaplin's unwillingness to trust and respect women ruined his romantic life, and he dumped his lovers as if they were disposable. Despite his trust concerns, the actor never ceased falling in love with young girls.

In a biography of Charlie Chaplin, biographer Peter Ackroyd wrote that he would frequently make fun of his sexual escapades with Hollywood celebrities and took pride in claiming to have slept with over 2000 women. Charlie Chaplin once recounted one such relationship in an interview with Vanity Fair, saying, “I am not exactly in love with her, but she is entirely in love with me.”

Edna Purviance, aged 19, was one of the first ladies to put up with the actor's convoluted persona. Despite their growing closeness, she was unable to find a space in his heart due to his hectic schedule. Soon after, Chaplin began a romance with 16-year-old Mildred Harris, whom he ultimately married after the starlet disclosed, she was pregnant. When Chaplin discovered she wasn't pregnant, he began mistreating and abusing her, believing she had duped him into marriage.

However, when Harris became pregnant with his child, she experienced a psychological breakdown as a result of Chaplin's mistreatment, and the pair separated in 1920. Later, the actor began courting a 12-year-old actress who had appeared in Chaplin's 1924 picture ‘The Gold Rush.’ She did, however, join the ranks of Chaplin's divorced ladies after giving birth to two of his children.

Chaplin married 22-year-old actress Paulette Goddard in 1942, and surprisingly, this was one of his most stable partnerships. They worked together for a long time, but he became tired with the relationship and divorced her in 1943, marrying another lady.

In this case, the bride was Oona O'Neill, the daughter of Irish author Eugene O'Neill, who was only 18 years old when Chaplin was 54. This friendship, however, persisted until Chaplin died in 1977. Unlike his previous partnerships, the couple had eight children and they were apparently full of love.
