Universal Pictures has announced that the third installment of the animated event film Trolls will debut in theatres on November 17, 2023.
According to an international publication, the yet-to-be-titled film will be released in cinemas exclusively and make it to streaming services after 17 days of its theatrical release.
The second installment in the franchise, Trolls World Tour, was one of the last films to release in theatres in the US and other parts of the world prior to the coronavirus pandemic bringing our life to a complete standstill.
The film premiered in select theatres in March 2020, but Universal Pictures decided to stream it on various PVOD (premium video on demand) platforms on the same date. Theater owners criticized the studio for its decision and urged that the decision be a one-off and not a new normal for Hollywood.
The first Trolls film, which hit the marquee in 2016, was a phenomenal success across the globe. It went on to earn a whopping $350 million worldwide.
Trolls World Tour, voice-starring Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick, collected over $100 million on PVOD and $47 million at international box office during the pandemic.
There is no confirmation if Trolls director Walt Dohrn would be returning to helm the third installment of the franchise.
