A new report says that the US Navy recorded the moment when the Titanic submersible, which was called Titan, broke apart and sank. The company that ran the submarine, OceanGate Expeditions, has said that the five people on board are thought to be dead.

The reports said that underwater sound tracking devices used by the US Navy during its expedition to the Titanic wreck in the Atlantic Ocean picked up on the likely implosion soon after the Titan disappeared. A top US Navy source who didn't want to be named said that an analysis of acoustic data showed an anomaly that sounds like an implosion or explosion near where the submersible was last seen.

On Thursday, the US Coast Guard said that they had found rubble about 3,800 metres (12,400 feet) below the surface of the ocean near where the Titanic went down. The international search-and-rescue mission is over, and officials have confirmed that the debris found on the bottom matches what happened when the pressure chamber of the sub exploded.

OceanGate Expeditions, which runs the submarine, has said that it is likely that all five people on board have died.
