Eat Pray Love actress Julia Roberts has an interesting body of work when it comes to cinematic performances. A recipient to several prestigious awards including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globe Awards, Julia has been a reigning Hollywood star for years.

Julia rose to international fame when she starred in the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman, which saw the highest number of ticket sales in the U.S.

Recently, in an interview with The New York Times, Roberts said that audiences didn't appreciate enough the romantic-comedy films that came out in the 1990s.

Elaborating further, Julia said just because people don't get to see the work that goes into producing rom-coms, the movies are often just dismissed as 'simply saccharine fun'.

"I think we didn’t appreciate the bumper crop of romantic comedies that we had then. You don’t see all the effort and puppet strings because it’s fun and sweet and people are laughing and kissing and being mischievous."

"This is a genre that I love to participate in and watch, and I think they are hard to get right. There is a really simple math to it, but how do you make it special? How do you keep people interested when you can kind of predict what is coming?," she adds.

Julia further said that she's open to doing a romantic comedy film if an interesting script comes her way.

On work front, Julia Roberts will reunite with George Clooney for the romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise, which is set to be released by Universal Pictures on October 21, 2022. She also signed on to play Martha Mitchell, a controversial figure throughout the Watergate scandal, in the political thriller television series Gaslit, based on the first season of the podcast Slow Burn by Leon Neyfakh.

Roberts will also appear as Amanda in the upcoming film Leave the World Behind, appearing alongside Ethan Hawke. The movie is an adaptation of a novel by Rumaan Alam. Moreover, the film is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s company, Higher Grounds Productions.
