Sony Pictures has dropped the new trailer of Marvel Studios’ hugely anticipated film Spider-Man No Way Home. The film, which brings back Tom Holland in the titular role, revolves around the adventures of Spider-Man after Mysterio exposed his true identity in the previous installment, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The latest trailer is filled with several surprises. It also confirms, at least in parts, what fans have been speculating about for long - that Spider-Man No Way Home will unite three universes of Spider-Man films. The trailer showed off villains from previous Spider-Man films, including Dr Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman and The Lizard— bringing together more antagonists than any Spider-Man film before.

Along with the villains, the film will also bring back older versions of Spider-Man, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. There is a brief mention of some sort of confluence at the end of the new trailer, but no sign of Maguire and Garfield.

As revealed in the first trailer, No Way Home picks up right where Far From Home left off: with the world learning Spider-Man’s secret identity and with the villain Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) framing him for murder. Peter (Tom Holland) tries to seek help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to undo the damage, only to see things go awry and open a door to the multiverse. That paves the way for appearances from villains from every universe.

Meanwhile, JK Simmons returns to reprise his character of J Jonah Jameson, who hates the masked vigilante. Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Jon Favreau also feature in important roles in the film.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to arrive in cinemas worldwide on December 17. In India, the film is set to release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English.
