Spider-Man star Tom Holland officially confirmed on Sunday that he is set to play legendary actor, dancer and singer Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic for Sony Pictures. The 25-year-old confirmed the news while promoting his forthcoming film Spider-Man: No Way Home at an event in London. He attended the event with his co-star Zendaya. The two are dating.

"The script came in a week ago. I haven't read it yet; they haven't given it to me," he told the media.

In a recent interview with a leading publication, Oscar-nominated producer Amy Pascal teased that she wanted to rope in Holland for the part of Astaire in the forthcoming film, as well as another trilogy of Spider-Man movies for Sony Pictures.

Pascal has received the script though, Holland noted. “She FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath. And we had a lovely FaceTime, but I will be playing Fred Astaire.”

Holland first burst onto the scene when he debuted as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016). He has since then played the role in three Spider-Man films for Sony Pictures and two Avengers films for Disney.

Before stepping into Astaire's shoes, Holland has another trilogy of Spider-Man films to headline. “I love this character more than anything. This character has changed my life. I have a relationship with my fans that is so wonderful. I couldn’t ask for it to be any better,” Holland said.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinema screens in India on December 16.
