Canadian singer, Shawn Mendes recently opened up about his breakup with American-cuban singer Camila Cabello. After dating for more than two years, the two singers announced their breakup in November. Shawn has been expressing his emotions via music since then, but on Friday, March 18, he posted a complete video confessional on Instagram, in which he addressed the split for the first time.
On Friday, the Stitches singer posted a video on Twitter in which he outlines how his new songs reflect his own struggles.
"You don't realize when you're breaking up with someone … all the s*** that comes after it," he said as per PEOPLE, "Which is like, who do I call when I am, like, in a panic attack, who do I call when I am, like, f—ing on the edge, you know? And I think that's the reality that kinda I am on my own now after like, finally I am actually on my own and I hate that … that's my reality, you know," said the 23-year old singer-songwriter.
Following the breakup revelation, a source close to Camila told E! News that Shawn had "initiated the conversation" with the fellow singer about splitting up, and that while she was "very upset," the two "agreed" it was for the best.
Shawn released his track It'll Be Okay in December, which many assumed was about the breakup.
