Prior to the main Academy Awards event on March 28, global celebrity Priyanka Chopra Jonas co-hosted a pre-Oscars event honouring South Asian achievement in cinema. The actress, who has made a name for herself in Hollywood, stepped out to co-host the event in Beverly Hills, California.

The actress wowed spectators with her breathtaking all-black ensemble for the evening, making her appear like a million bucks. Sticking to the tag of the Desi Girl that she is, Priyanka was dressed in a glistening black saree with a strapless blouse.

The actress stood centre stage during the occasion, reminiscing about her Hollywood career and recalling her first meet with fellow "brown" actor Aziz Ansari.

PeeCee said in her speech, "When I came here 10 years ago and started looking for work in America, I remember I was at a Golden Globes party and Aziz Ansari and I met at an after party and it was just him and I and we wanted to count how many brown people were in the room and it was just us. And you know it was great, we congratulated each other, encouraged each other and we went out and met everyone else.”

"But today I am not someone else. Today I stand among peers, amongst colleagues, amongst south Asian excellence. And I have goosebumps, I am emotional, it makes me very proud," she added.

The Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2006) actress also stated that despite not going out, she was obligated to attend the event. "Haven’t been stepping out anywhere but had to come here just to say this tonight that I am highly proud to be rubbing shoulders with all of you, to be encouraging you," she ended before moving off the platform to make place for actor Riz Ahmed.

On the professional front, the actress has inked a few Hollywood projects and is set to return to Bollywood with Farhan Akhtar's Jee Le Zaraa, which also stars Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
