Hollywood icon Tom Cruise recently had the largest box office success of his career with Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning 42 years after making his acting debut in 1981. As Tom's first movie to gross more than $1 billion globally, this legacy sequel has also been a crucial turning point for him. The movie's current estimated end-of-run budget is $1.3 billion.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur shared a throwback photo with Tom Cruise from 2011 on social media during the enormous success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’ Shekhar stated how Tom had asked about ‘Mr. India 2’ and ‘Paani’ in his caption. It's interesting to note that it was the same year that Tom Cruise collaborated with ‘Mr. India’ actor Anil Kapoor on ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost’ Protocol.

Shekhar Kapur's caption stated Tom Cruise's advice, "It does not matter where you make a movie anymore... Some of the best are coming from Asia. Shekhar mentioned Tom's interest in Mr India 2 and Paani." There is a tinge of doubt, though, as the veracity of the assertion is regarded with distrust.

'Masoom' was a critical success for Shekhar Kapur in 1983, and 'Mr. India' brought him national recognition in 1987. In 1994, he also helmed 'Bandit Queen,' and in 1998, 1998's 'Elizabeth,' its sequel 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age,' and 2002's 'The Four Feathers,' he made his worldwide cinema debut.

Shekhar Kapur's last Hindi feature was released in 1994, however he has been working on the dystopian sci-fi movie ‘Paani’ for a long time. Hrithik Roshan was originally slated to feature in the movie, but after Yash Raj Films' support in 2013, Sushant Singh Rajput joined the cast ‘Paani,’ despite spending years in pre-production, was eventually dropped.

Shekhar Kapur recently helmed the romantic comedy 'What's Love Got to Do With It?' with Lily James, Emma Thompson, and Shabana Azmi after a number of projects were put on hold.
