Bella Hadid has spoken out against the Israel-Hamas war. Hadid, a Palestinian-American, opened her message by apologising for her recent silence. She emphasised the suffering of innocent lives and families over decades as a result of the conflict. "I have yet to find the ideal words for these deeply intricate and horrific past two weeks, weeks that have refocused the world's attention on a situation that has been taking innocent lives and affecting families for decades," Hadid wrote. “I have a lot to say, but I'll keep it brief today."
Since the outbreak, Bella Hadid has received hundreds of death threats on a daily basis, and her family has felt unsafe. Bella writes in her post, "I've received hundreds of death threats daily, my phone number has been leaked, and my family has felt threatened. But I refuse to be silent any longer. It is not a choice to be afraid. The people and children of Palestine, particularly those in Gaza, cannot afford for us to remain silent. We are not courageous; they are."
Bella Hadid strongly condemns terrorist assaults on people of any country, emphasising the need of safeguarding women and children. She is an outspoken supporter of the "Free Palestine" campaign, battling damaging and erroneous stereotypes that paint Palestinians as terrorists. She also recalls her family's history, describing how they were forced to flee their homes as a result of Israeli incursions and violence against Palestinian communities.
She went on to say, "My heart is bleeding with pain from the trauma I am seeing unfold, as well as the generational trauma of my Palestinian blood," and went on to say, "Seeing the aftermath from the airstrikes in Gaza, I mourn with all the mothers who have lost children and the children who cry alone, all the lost fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, and friends that will never again walk this earth."
