James Corden is preparing to depart from The Late Late Show. The contract of the British actor with CBS has been prolonged until next year, and he will depart before the springtime of 2023. Corden may have hosted The Late Late Show for nearly eight years by the time he departs, which is a significant accomplishment.
James says “It’s been a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show. I’m thrilled to be extending [for a year].” He further says “I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.” Corden, on the other hand, landed a deal to host The Late Late Show, that was earlier been hosted by Ferguson, and the tv show premiered on March 23, 2015.
CBS executive states “We [CBS] desperately tried to keep him for longer but James only wanted to do one final year that will keep him on the show until next year. He's been such a hit for us for so many years, we will miss him very much.”
Corden created popular segments on The Late Late Show, such as Carpool Karaoke, in which he drives with famous celebrities around and they sing together. Carpool Karaoke was spun off into its own show for Apple in 2017, which won an Emmy Award. It is now in its fifth season.
