Whether it is for their haute couture collection or pret line, designers Falguni and Shane Peacock always put on a great spectacle. They did not disappoint during their performance at the FDCI India Couture Week 2022. Designers dressed their models in stunning, glittering bridal clothing, drawing inspiration from Renaissance-era artwork and opulent French tapestries.
The star of the show for them was actress Sara Ali Khan, who wore a dark blue lehenga embellished with crystals, beads, and pure silk organza appliqué with silver and grey sequins. A cropped v-neck blouse and a beaded drape were used to style the outfit.
The idea for the designs in the collection came from Art Nouveau and the grandeur of French architecture, where the elements were combined with Indian architectural features like minarets, archways, and domes, among others. It honoured the nation that has produced many works of art and some of the most renowned masters in the history of contemporary art and architecture, including Chagall, Picasso, Braque, and Le Corbusier.
The collection features intricate designs that highlight the best aspects of Indo-Parisian architecture and culture. The collection captures the soul of the French tapestry in traditional Indian costume by reproducing the countless structures of the architectural treasure on ensembles. The architectural marvel and characteristics from both cultures were reproduced on the fabric using the chrome applique process.
