Sridevi Biography

Sridevi is an eminent Indian actress, who is also known to be first female superstar in Bollywood. She has worked in various Telugu, Tamil movies apart from acting in Hindi cinema. The gorgeous lady was born on 13 August 1963 in TamilNadu. Sridevi's maternal family consists of her father, Ayyapan, who was a lawyer, her mother Rajeswari, her sister and two step brothers.

Commencing the career as child artist, when she was just four years old, she continued to play such roles in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu movies. In 1996, Sridevi got married to actor and producer Boney Kapoor, elder brother of B-Town actor Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. The couple is having two daughters - Jhanvi and Khushi.

In her filmi career, Sridevi won many accolades for her excellent performance in films. She accomplished several awards like Kerala State Film Award for movie 'Poombatta' for the Best Child Artist category, Nandi Award for the category of Best Actress in 'Kshana Kshanam'. In Hindi cinema, Sridevi stepped in as child artist in the movie 'Julie'. Sridevi was thirteen years old, when she played first adult role in her career. It was in the movie 'Moondru Mudichu' in the year 1976. Talented Sridevi was sixteen year old, when she got established in South Indian film industry, by playing prominent roles in movies like 'Sigappu Rojakkal' in 1978, 'Meendum Kokila' in 1981, 'Vayathinile' in 1977 and in 1982, in the film 'Moondram Pirai'. The charismatic actress is awarded with 'Padma Shri' by Indian government in 2013. In the same year, CNN-IBN national poll voted Sridevi as 'India's Greatest Actress of All Time'. The renowned actress honored with Kalaimamanj Award by Tamil government, with Lachchu Maharaj Award in 2003 and Kalasaraswathi Award in 1997 by government of Andhra Pradesh. Sridevi received 'Living Legend in Entertainment Award' in 2008 by FICCI. The beauty with delicate features was also honored at Cairo International Film Festival in 2009.

Talking about Hindi cinema career of vivacious Sridevi, she performed noticeable characters in hit films, such as 'Sadma', 'Nagina', 'Mr. India', 'Chandni', 'Chaalbaaz', 'Lamhe', 'Khuda Gawah', 'Gumrah', and 'Judaai'. Apart from winning such a huge list of awards, Sridevi was nominated by Filmfare Awards for the Best Actress category for movies like 'Sadma', 'Chandni', 'Khuda Gawah', 'Laadla', 'Gumrah' and 'Judaai'. Sridevi rose in the eyes of South Indian audience from the film 'Moondru Mudichu' opposite Southern superstars Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan. Sridevi was in high demand for every productions and film banners. 'Malini Iyer' was small screen venture done by Sridevi.

Post marriage, the glamorous Bollywood queen preferred to take a break from her acting career for a while. And again, she made a grand comeback on silver screen in the blockbuster 'English Vinglish' in the year 2012, which is almost a huge gap of fifteen years. Sridevi performed at her best in the movie 'English Vinglish' directed by Gauri Shinde and literally became a screen grabber. Her performance was much appreciated in the film industry as well as she won laurels from the audience.

At the Asian Academy of Film and Television, Sridevi is a member of the venerable Board of Directors.
