Sonu Nigam Biography

A man with a golden voice, Sonu Nigam is a very talented singer of India who sings melodious songs in many languages. The handsome singer is a son of singer Agam Kumar Nigam and Shobha Nigam who was born on 30th July 1973 in Faridabad. Sonu has two sisters whose names are Meenal and Neekita. Trained in the martial art Taekwondo, Sonu is married to Madhurima who is a Bengali and the couple has a cute son named Nevaan who is also a future singer and musician. Apart from singing, Sonu is involved in a philanthropic work. He does a lot of charity work and sings songs for the events for peace , awareness and different causes.

Sonu began singing at the age of four. He used to perform with his father on stage in weddings and parties. As a teenager he took a part in various singing competitions and won them. He was 19 when he shifted to Mumbai with his father in search of an opportunity. He began playback singing with T series. Initially, he used to sing all the Mohammed Rafi's songs for T-series album 'Rafi ki Yaadein'. But he got a fame when he sang a song 'Accha Sila Diya' from the film 'Bewafa Sanam'. The song was a hit and Sonu saw a success. But he became a real household name when he started hosting a musical show named 'Sa Re Ga Ma'. He never looked back since then. Since Sa Re Ga Ma , Sonu has sung thousands of songs in many languages like Oriya, Marathi, Tamil,Assamese,Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Nepali. He released many music albums and sung many songs in the Hindi movies. He got many awards for playback singing in Hindi as well as in regional languages. Apart from singing, Sonu has appeared in many musical shows on television as a judge and mentor.

Sonu has tried his luck in films too. He worked as a child artist in many films like 'Pyaara Dushman','Kaamchor','Betaab','Hum se Hai Zamana','Taqdeer','Krishna-Krishna' etc. After growing up, he did many films like 'Jaani Dushman','Kash... Aap Hamare Hote' and 'Love in Nepal' etc. The films were not successful at the box office. But Sonu's performance as an actor was appreciated.
