Salim Khan Biography

Salim Khan, a renowned script writer was born on 24th of November 1935 in Indore during the British rule. Living up his childhood with his father, Khan lost his mother at a young age. Leading a life without mother, Salim Khan received affection, when he married Sushila Charak, a Maharashtrian Rajput from Mumbai in 1964.

As lady luck rode high on Salim, he received his first invite to Bollywood when director K. Amarnath noticed him at a wedding. Impressed by his good looks, Amarnath suggested him to come to Mumbai and later offered him acting offers in several films including of 1966 released 'Teesri Manzil'. Working in around 25 films for seven years, Salim appeared on screen depicting both full fledged as well as small character roles. As he noticed his acting career been stalled, he choose to assist writer-director Abrar Alvi. This is where Salim met Javed Akhtar, who was then assisting Kaifi Azmi. As Kaifi and Alvi been neighbors, Salim and Javed met on regular basis, creating a bond between them, which later sparked out as the duo merged into script writing altogether.

They ventured their first into scriptwriting by penning down the script of 1971 released 'Haathi Mere Saathi'. Merely the duo Salim-Javed tasted success with their second 'Seeta Aur Geeta' released in 1972. As the film hit the blockbuster mark, the duo went heaven high and thus continued nurturing their collaborated talent further with the flicks like 'Yaadon Ki Baarat', 'Zanjeer'(1973), 'Sholay', 'Chacha Bhatija', 'Don', 'Dostana' (1980), 'Shaan', 'Kranti', 'Shakti' and 'Zamana'. However, the duo remained firmed until their last together, 'Mr. India' in 1987 post this the duo split and both the writers parted their ways. With Javed Akhtar moving his way to lyrics writing, Salim Khan chose story, screenplay and dialogue writing.

Despite the golden duo split up, Salim solely nurtured the path and managed to deliver his best in flicks like 'Kabzaa', 'Toofan', 'Jurm', 'Patthar Ke Phool', 'Akayla', 'Aa Gale Lag Jaa', 'Dil Tera Deewana' and 'Yeh Majdhar'.

Whereas continuing with his career, Salim got struck by love for the second time in his life when he met then "queen of cabaret", Helen. Soon the couple married, stating Salim's second despite his first with Salma (then Sushila) in year 1981 . Although having four children Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan and Alvira Khan Agnihotri from his previous marriage, Salim Khan and Helen adopted a girl, Arpita.

Post the ups and downs in his personal and professional life, Salim grabbed a smile on his face when his eldest lad Salman chose acting and eventually succeeded to become a superstar, now known as Salman Khan. He made Salim's dream come true of living a life of a successful actor, as he himself couldn't lead one. Following his footstep the rest two lads, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan also joined Bollywood and are feasting a respectable share of prosperity. Whereas his elder daughter Alvira Khan Agnihotri is happily married to the actor-producer Atul Agnihotri, his youngest Arpita is zooming high into social circuit with her social causes. Post his partly retirement from the industry, Salimji still works as a script adviser.
