On 7th November 1969, Oriya painter Jatin Das and Gujarati writer, Varsha Das were blessed with a baby girl, Nandita in Delhi. Nandita Das is a Bollywood actress. She upgraded herself in education at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya at New Delhi. Later gaining a keen interest in eduction , Nandita moved ahead and fetched two degrees, a Bachelor's Degree in Geography from Miranda House (Delhi University) and the 'Master of Social Work' from Delhi School of social work.

After pursuing her curricular, Nandita was attracted towards the field of acting. So what keeping her independent attribute at stake, Das opted her acting career with a theater group 'Jana Natya Manch' at Rishi Valley School. Post brushing her acting skills, the actress went on and tried her luck in films. Achieving her debut in 1989 released 'Parinati', she ascended her first step into the industry. The film went on and became a critical success. Merely, Das gained real recognition in her next 1996's Mira Nair release 'Fire', first installment of "Elements Trilogy". The film however recurred lot of oppose for inclusion of a sensitive issue based on homosexuality. Eventually post so much of negativity surrounding the film, Nandita was appreciated for her acting skills.

Accordingly came Mira's second installment '1947 Earth' released in 1998, she roped in Nandita Das again to essay the lead. This time Nandita was paired opposite to Aamir Khan along with Rahul Khanna. In no time, stars sparked shine and Nandita won her first 'Filmfare Award for Best Debut Female' along with audience appraisal. Next up, the year 1998 proved a good year for the dusky actress, as her next 'Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa' got released in Bollywood along with few of her regional projects. The same year saw Nandita's debut in several industries like as the film 'Janmadinam' in Malayalam, 'Biswaprakash' in Oriya and 'Deveeri' in Kannada.

Same as above, 1999 also witnessed diverse treat offerings by the talent house. Nandita firstly appeared in English spoken 'Rockford' and then 'Punaradhivasam' in Malayalam. Till now, Nandita's wagon went on pretty well in the industry and then came a surprising shock to the actress, it was her next Rajasthani venture 'Bawandar' that projected lime light on her and that too on a global platform. The actress grabbed the 'Best Actress' award at 'Santa Monica Film Festival' for the particular.

Soon after, Das appeared in the movie 'Aks', 'Daughters of This Century' and 'Aamaar Bhuvan' (Bengali), which too proved luck. This time Das was felicitated on a global platform again by the 'Best Actress' honor at 'Cairo Film Festival' along with holding 'Zee Cine Award For Best Actress'.

As her career prospered, Nandita decided to succeed personally and tied the knot with Saumya Sen. The couple lead a groovy personal relation and moved ahead to try it professionally as well. Soon, they began with 'Leapfrog Ad Agency'. The motive behind this, was to solely generate ads generating socially conscious. Thereafter, Nandita kept on appearing on screen with the films like 'Pitaah', 'Lal Salaam', 'Ek Alag Mausam', 'Bas Yun Hi', 'Kagaar', 'Ek Din 24 Ghante', 'Maati Maay' (Marathi) and 'Kamli' (Telugu). This Telugu flick added another prestigious feather of 'Nandi Award for Best Actress' on her hat.

Next up came 'Before the Rains' and 'Provoked', which stood up as a great example of excellent films in the society. Achieving success increased her value on public platform. En-cashing the same, Das was chosen as the chairperson of 'Children's Film Society of India' in the year 2009. Apart from her achievements in the industry, Nandita is all famous for her display of thoughts on AIDS, child survival and violence against women. This molded Nandita's image to be that of an independent, fearless, portrayal of today's woman.

However, all went amazing with Nandita on a professional front, her personal life shook up, when she parted up with her spouse, Saumya. The couple got separated in 2009 and her personal life went into low. But as destiny had, the phase went off quickly and Das got hitched to her industrialist beau Subodh Maskara in 2010.

By this changed personally, Nandita bounced back professionally too. Keeping in mind her mark and work into the society, French Government bestowed 'Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters' on her name. The award is accordingly considered a prestigious civil award. Followed by this, Nandita is seated in the 'Hall of Fame' of the 'International Women's Forum', Washington DC.

Nandita now leads a happily married life with Subodh and the couple is having a baby boy, Vihaan. Nandita Das was last seen in films like 'I Am' and 'Neerparavia' (Tamil).
