Mallika Sherawat Biography

Mallika Sherawat is an Indian model and actress. She hails from Rohtak, Haryana. She was born on 24th October. The birthyear of the actress is not disclosed clearly. Mallika was born in a philanthropist Jat family. Her real name is Reema Lamba. In order to avoid confusion with the other 'Reema' in the industry, she changed her name to Mallika, which means the empress. Sherawat is her mother's maiden name. She was married to Captain Karan Singh Gill, a Jet Airways pilot. She got separated from him afterwards.

She did her schooling from Delhi Public School and from Delhi University, she accomplished a degree in Philosophy.

Mallika Sherawat was seen in TV ads like BPL with Amitabh Bachchan and with Shah Rukh Khan, she performed an ad for Santro. Then, she ventured into some music videos with Nirmal Pandey and Surjit Bindrakhia. She got her first brake in Hindi movies with 'Jeena Sirf Merre Liye'.

Mallika came into limelight, when she appeared in 'Khwahish' in the year 2003. In 2004, she came up with the other flick titled 'Murder' opposite Emraan Hashmi. She played the character of unfaithful wife in this movie. 'Murder' was a huge hit and Mallika became hot favorite in the list of filmmaker Bhatt. In both these films, Mallika played a bold and frank character and stole the show. She was nominated by Zee Cine Awards for the Best Actress category.

The dusky beauty appeared in 'The Myth' in 2005 with Hollywood actor Jackie Chan. It was a Chinese movie. This was Mallika's first international film.

In 2006, Mallika played a lead role in the film 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects', which gained moderate response from the viewers. Rahul Bose was her co-star in this movie and she played a Delhi-based girl next door. It was a complete rom-com with a catchy flow.

Mallika acted in another superhit film in 2007 named 'Welcome'. Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar and Paresh Rawal were the other actors starring in film 'Welcome'. The bindaas Mallika delivered an electrifying performance in movie 'Welcome'.

In the same year, Mallika did a cameo in the film 'Guru' by performing a special song in it -'Mayya Mayya'. The song was a great hit among the music lovers and Mallika rocked in the video.

In 2008, Mallika's two films arrived - 'Ugly Aur Pagli' and 'Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam'. Both movies failed to be successful at box-office. Her next movie was 'Double Dhamaal', in which she did an item number - Jalebi Bai. This film attained normal response from viewers; achieving average status at box-office. In the comedy movie 'Thank You', Mallika did an item number - Razia Gundon Mein Phas Gayi. She danced to the tunes of song 'Shalu Ke Thumkey'.

She ventured into Hollywood film with 'Hisss' in 2009. 'Politics of Love' was her next Hollywood movie.

The film 'Tezz' (2012) saw Mallika shaking her legs on beats of the item song 'Laila'. The opinionated actress starred in 'Kismet Love Paisa Dilli' opposite Vivek Oberoi in the year 2012.

Mallika walked the red carpet at Cannes. 'The next big thing', that's how the Time Magazine praised Mallika Sherawat.

Mallika is regarded in the industry as someone who is outspoken and straight-forward.
