Karisma Kapoor Biography

A charismatic Indian actress, Karisma Kapoor is fondly called 'Lolo'. Karisma, who is the fourth generation of legendary Kapoor family, dominated Hindi film industry with her excellent performance in Bollywood movies. She was born on 25th June 1974 in Mumbai. She is the angel of yesteryear actor Randhir Kapoor and Babita. Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor is younger sister of Karisma. The vivacious actress is granddaughter of great filmmaker and actor Raj Kapoor and late actor Prithviraj Kapoor's great-granddaughter. Karisma is great-niece of former actors Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor, niece of Bollywood actors Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. Karisma Kapoor is first-cousin of Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor.

Karisma completed her schooling from Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. She was the student of Sophia College in Mumbai for a short period of time. Karisma became a part of Bollywood industry, when she debuted in 'Prem Qaidi' in 1991. The movie turned to be a semi-hit on box-office. Albeit, from 1992 to 1996, many of Karisma's films did not perform much well, she gave some hits like 'Anari' (1993), 'Jigar' (1992), 'Coolie No. 1', 'Raja Babu', 'Saajan Chale Sasural', 'Judwaa', 'Gopi Kishan' (1995), 'Hero No. 1' (1997), 'Papi Gudia' (1996), 'Jeet' (1996) and 'Silsila Hai Pyar Ka' (1997).

Due to her immense acting skills, she always remained an unforgettable impression on viewers' mind. Her chirpy and lively nature invited lots of applause for her. The beauty with talent played some treasured roles in her career in the movies like 'Raja Hindustani' (1996). The movie turned out to be highest grossing movie of the entire year. She even received Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in this film. The other memorable flick by Karisma Kapoor was 'Dil To Pagal Hai'. Karisma performed so brilliantly in this movie that she was awarded with 'Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award'and 'National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress'. Her co-stars in 'Dil To Pagal Hai' were Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. 'Biwi No. 1' (1999) was the comedy film starring Karisma Kapoor and Salman Khan in lead roles. No need to mention, all these films were wonder hits at the box-office.

Karisma was also a part of 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi', a David Dhawan film. Her co-stars in the film were Govinda and Sanjay Dutt. The movie saw fairly good days at box-office.

'Hum Saath Saath Hain' was the very first project of Karisma with the Rajshri Productions Pvt. Ltd.. Eventually, the film was a hit. In critically acclaimed film 'Fiza', Karisma showed the real actress hidden inside her. She displayed immense emotional range, surprising the viewers and critics.

In 2001, Karisma played a lead role in 'Zubeidaa', a Shyam Benegal movie. The actress accomplished critical acclaim for portraying this role. Karisma was conferred with Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for 'Zubeidaa'.

'Shakti - The Power' was a film in which Karisma was appreciated for overshadowing all the performances of that year. She received lots of nominations for the Best Actress category for her acting.

In the year 2003, Karisma came up with the movie 'Baaz'. It was her only movie releasing in 2003. In the same year, Karisma entered on small screen with serial 'Karisma - The Miracles of Destiny' on Sahara One channel. In this serial, Karisma played grandmother as well as granddaughter. The serial completed total 260 episodes.

In 2006, Karisma was seen paired up with Akshay Kumar in 'Mere Jeevan Saathi'. Amisha Patel was also starring in the film. Karisma displayed her gray shades in this movie. In same year, one more film of Karisma released named 'Zamaanat' with Amitabh Bachchan and Arshad Warsi. The year 2007 saw Karan Johar inviting Karisma Kapoor on his chat show 'Koffee With Karan'. She was the part of the show with her younger sister Kareena Kapoor and Kareena's ex-beau Shahid Kapoor.

Karisma turned as a judge for a television dance reality show named 'Nach Baliye 4' along with choreographer- director Farah Khan and actor Arjun Rampal in 2008. In the same year, the actress was seen alongside David Dhawan for another show titled 'Hans Baliye'. 'Wife Bina Life' was her next TV reality show in 2010; she was invited in it as a guest. In 2007, the lady performed a cameo along with several Bollywood stars for 'Om Shanti Om'. It was for a dance number, in which she successfully grabbed attentions. Karisma was the one, who voiced the role of Chhaya in blockbuster 'Bodyguard', starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles.

The reigning actress Karisma tied the knot with Delhi-based entrepreneur Sanjay Kapoor on 29 September 2003. The wedding ceremony took place at R.K.Cottage, where all Kapoor weddings have happened yet. The actress took a short break from film career in that period to concentrate on her family. The couple is having a daughter, Samaira and a son, Kiaan Raj Kapoor.

Karisma was back on screen in 2011 with a 3D movie titled 'Dangerous Ishq', a Vikram Bhatt film. Karisma's performance got mixed reviews in this movie. Nowadays, the beauty is seen endorsing big brands like Sunfeast, McCain, and reportedly, soon she will be endorsing Danone Food products.
