Amrita Rao Biography

Pretty and beautiful Amrita Rao is an Indian Movie Actress. She is well known for her 'girl next door' image. Born on 7th June 1981 to Deepak Rao, she has a younger sister Preetika, who is also an actress.

She holds a degree in Psychology from Sophia College, Mumbai. Along with her studies she started modeling for some ads. Watching her in a Perk ad Raj Kumar Santoshi offered her a role in a movie which she refused as she wanted to concentrate on her studies. But, the director was too generous to again offer her a role in the Movie 'The legend of Bhagat Singh' stating that it would take only 5 days to complete the shoot as the role was too short for which Amrita readily agreed. After completing her studies she acted in 'Ab Ke Baras' (2002) which released before 'The legend of Bhagat Singh' and became her first release. The film could not do well. But, in 2003 Ken Ghosh's 'Ishq Vishk' brought her to the limelight. She was paired opposite Shahid Kapoor in the movie. In 2004 she appeared in hit movies like 'Main Hoon Na' and 'Masti'. Both Movies 'Shikhar' and 'Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi' opposite Shahid Kapoor bombed at the box office in 2005. But she bounced back in 2006's Sooraj Barjatya Directed Romance and Drama 'Vivah' again with Shahid Kapoor. It proved to be her landmark movie where she played an ideal girl and a perfect marriage material.

In 2007 she debuted in Telugu film industry opposite Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu. She did a special appearance in title track of 2008 Hindi movie 'Heyy Babyy'. In 2008, she won a lot of critical acclaim for her role in the movie 'Welcome to Sajjanpur' directed by Shyam Benegal. The film was featured at an international film festival. Her movie 'My name is Anthony Gonsalves' (2008), 'Victory'(2009), 'Shortcut'(2009), 'Love U...Mr. Kalakaar!'(2011) all failed to fare at the box office.

She also Judged a Reality show 'The Perfect Bride'. She soon will be seen in the movie 'Jolly L.L.B.' along with Arshad Warsi.Currently she is busy in shooting her upcoming untitled movie with Sunny Deol.
