Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is already in its sixth week and is nearing the end of its theatrical run. At one point, it appeared that the film's lifetime gross would be around 125-135 crores. However, it has fared better than expected, and 145 crores have already been crossed. Yes, it may finally reach dangerously near to the 150 crores mark, which would boil down to any demand for the picture after Eid.
However, it has done enough to be a good success, which is extremely tough to do even for the greatest of pictures. Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor's film is now his fourth highest-grossing film, and it will remain there.
Of course, at the time of its release, it appeared to be a film with the potential to outperform his other romcom superhit, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. However, this did not occur, despite the fact that it had passed Ae Dil Hai Mushkil by a significant distance.
1) ‘Sanju’ – 342.53 crores
2) ‘Brahmastra’ – 264 crores
3) ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ – 188.92 crores
4) ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ – 146 crores* (still running)
This is turning out to be a remarkable season in which Ranbir Kapoor has three films released in less than a year. It was ‘Brahmastra’ in September, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ in March, and ‘Animal’ in August. The picture is predicted to be a great hit, and it will be interesting to see how far it rises in the Top-10 rankings once it hits theatres on August 11th.
