As expected, SS Rajamouli’s latest magnum-opus RRR has taken the box office by storm. According to reports, the film opened to packed houses on March 25 and garnered a whopping amount of ₹257 crore worldwide. As a result, RRR has emerged as the best performing film on the first day in the history of Indian cinema.
The period drama, which features NTR Jr and Ram Charan in lead roles and Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in extended cameos, has left behind Rajamouli’s last film, Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), which had racked up ₹224 crore on the first day of its release.
Trade expert Manobala Vijayabalan took to Twitter to share the opening day profits of RRR, reporting that it pocketed ₹257.15 crore. This collection includes earnings of ₹120 crore from Andhra and Telangana alone, as well as ₹78 crore from international territories.
He tweeted, “RRR Movie makes box office history,” followed by a breakdown of the film's earnings by territory. “First Indian film ever to earn this much money on the first day.”
As far as the film’s performance in Hindi belt is concerned, it has reportedly earned ₹20 crore in the northern regions alone.
