Aamir Khan ’s wrestling drama Dangal has received a raving response from fans across the globe and it has become the highest grossing Indian film at the worldwide market. There was news that the film crossed the 2000 crores mark worldwide, becoming the first Indian film to achieve the feat. However, the latest update claims that it was a mere rumour and the film is yet to cross the figure.

The spokesperson of the film said in a statement that the movie is yet to touch 2000 crores but it has successfully reached Rs. 1864 crores gross worldwide. The makers are planning to tap the unreached territories after the encouraging release in China and the numbers are expected to rise.

A spokesperson said, "We have been reading a lot of reports saying that Dangal has crossed 2000 crores worldwide. Just to set the record straight, we want to clarify that Dangal's official worldwide gross collection figure as of Thursday is 1864 crores."

Adding, "We are very happy that our film has been so successful, and what is of most value for Aamir Khan and the entire team of ‘Dangal’ is the immense love the film has got from the audience across the globe. We are looking forward for the film to release in other untapped territories to reach more audience."

Dangal is based on the life of Indian wrestler Mahavir Phogat and his wrestler daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat. The film stars Aamir Khan , Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanvar among others. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari , the film released on 23 December 2016 in India.
