Newton passes the crucial Monday box-office test!

Amit Masurkar’s latest directorial outing Newton starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead has been garnering all the love across the country. The film has been praised not only by the fans but also the critics and, the industry mates who cannot stop raving about it. Also, there is a great news for the entire industry and a moment of pride that Newton has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2018.

The film, Newton, started on a low note and managed to make only Rs. 96 lakhs on its opening Friday. However, the huge buzz after its Oscar selection news and the positive word of mouth helped it in increasing the footfalls during the weekend. The movie raked in Rs. 2.52 crores on Saturday and Rs. 3.42 crores on Sunday. The film further made Rs. 1.31 crores on Monday, which is way more than its opening day. Hence, the total collection stands at Rs. 8.21 crores at the domestic front.

Newton is expected to remain stable during the weekdays and is not affected much by the competition film Bhoomi and Haseena Parkar. It is a small budget movie and shot in real locations. As predicted by BollywoodMDB, the makers have increased the screen count of the film citing the good response. The small budget film has an acting gem Rajkummar Rao among other star performers like Sanjay Mishra, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, and Raghubir Yadav.

The movie narrates the tale of a newly recruited government employee named Nutan Kumar a.k.a. Newton, played by Rajkummar Rao, who is entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out a fair election in a Naxal hit area.
