The year 2014 opened with a detective flick ' Mr Joe B. Carvalho ' starring Arshad Warsi and Soha Ali Khan releasing on January 3. The film released across 1000 screens and witnessed around 10% to 18% occupancy on its opening day. Although the dashing first look posters of the film seemed interesting, the movie could not please the audience and received poor reviews from the critics.

The same day saw the release of the 3D film ' Sholay ' that released in 850 screens. The 3D format proved a special attraction for all the avid fans of the film and saw good response. According to the early estimates, ' Mr Joe B. Carvalho ' is expected to garner around 1.75 to 1.85 crore nett on Friday. The probable reason for the cold response of the viewers to this detective film is the recent star-studded release ' Dhoom 3 ', which struck gold at the domestic and international box office.
