Since the release of Anurag Kashyap's much-anticipated movie 'Bombay Velvet', all the eyes are on its box office collections. The makers and the team along with the actors had high expectations from the neo-noir drama, but the film apparently failed to set the cash registers ringing. Ranbir Kapoor has a huge fan following and all his films are known to enjoy a decent to a fairly good opening. But 'Bombay Velvet' surprisingly did not open to a great number and fetched only 5.20 crores on its first Friday.
On its second day i.e. on Saturday the film collected Rs. 5.10 crores and on Sunday it made Rs. 5.80 crores, hence the total stands to Rs. 16. 10 crores at the box-office. It is a big budget movie and hence it seems difficult for the makers to recover the cost. The negative word of mouth and mixed reviews have dragged the footfalls at the theatres down. Also, there is another family entertainer film 'Piku' which is still performing very well and attracting audiences in turn affecting the business of 'Bombay Velvet'.
Along with Ranbir, the 1950s flick also stars actors Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in pivotal roles.
