On its first day, 'Neeyat' got off to a good start at the box office, making 1.02 crores. These numbers were about what was expected for a movie aimed at the elite and mostly shown in multiplexes. To build a strong base, it was important to get off to a good start. The rest of the weekend's momentum came from good word of mouth.

To put things in perspective, Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway came out a few months ago and made 1.27 crores in its first run. Like 'Neeyat,' it was only sold in limited quantities and promoted through word of mouth. Also, both pictures are about things that are important to women. With Vidya Balan leading the cast of 'Neeyat,' it is likely that the movie will follow a similar path, possibly crossing the 5-crore mark over the weekend.

There are no other new films coming out at the same time as 'Neeyat,' but 'Satya Prem Ki Katha' still plays. But on Wednesday, Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One' comes out, giving 'Neeyat' some company. So, 'Neeyat' needs to make big steps forward today and tomorrow if it wants to keep up with the competition that is coming.
