The early box office results for ‘Leo’ are in, and it has completely destroyed Kollywood's opening records. According to preliminary estimates, the picture grossed over Rs. 75 crore on its opening day in India, a sum that might rise to Rs. 80 crore after the final figures are tallied in the morning. Similarly, the foreign first day, including previews, is likely to be in the range of USD 7.50-8 million, giving ‘Leo’ a worldwide opening day of roughly Rs. 140 crore.

Prior to ‘Leo,’ ‘2.0’ had the largest opening day receipts in both India and the rest of the globe, with Rs. 70 crores and Rs. 94 crores, respectively. ‘Leo’ is on track to break the world record by about 50%, albeit the gap in India is narrower due to the huge contribution of the Hindi version of ‘2.0’ in North India, which ‘Leo’ lacks.

In South India, ‘Leo’ has broken opening day records in Kerala and Karnataka, with the former setting a new milestone with its first-ever double-digit single-day profits of Rs. 11.50 crore. Tamil Nadu may also witness the record, although this will be determined later. ‘Leo’ actually outscored ‘Beast,’ the current record holder, in regular shows, but ‘Beast’ had the benefit of commencing concerts at 4 a.m., with many centers performing six shows a day. ‘Leo’ began performing at 9 a.m., with a daily maximum of five appearances.

The Telugu states might have also set a record, but owing to a clash with the Telugu film ‘Bhagwant Kesari,’ they will fall short of ‘2.0.’ A standalone release would have easily pushed it over 2.0.’

The film has a large advance for the weekend and then the Dusshera holiday on the first two weekdays, so the record-breaking box office adventure that began today will continue.
