Ranveer Singh's 'Cirkus', which released this Friday (December 23) has started its box office run on a disastrous note. The Rohit Shetty directorial has managed to bag a mere Rs. 6.5 crore on day one of its release, as per reports.
Box office analysts have remarked that this is the lowest collection for any Rohit Shetty film in the last 15 years.
Adding to the woes of the film is the negative reviews and the not-so-conducive word of mouth publicity. Trade pundit Sumit Kadel has confirmed the abysmal day one collection of Cirkus on Twitter. "#Cirkus collects ₹ 6.5 cr nett approx on its opening day at the domestic box office..." he wrote.

Produced by Rohit Shetty and Bhushan Kumar's T Series, 'Cirkus' stars Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma in double roles alongside Jacqueline Fernandez and Pooja Hegde. It also features a cameo of Deepika Padukone in special song 'Current Laga Re'.
Based on William Shakespeare's 'The Comedy of Errors', the film has been criticised for a weak narrative and storyline. Film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh gave 'Cirkus' 2 out 5 stars, panning its "outdated" story and lack humour. "While the spark is missing, the second half does have some funny moments," he said.
Similarly, Anupama Chopra in her review, said, "Cirkus is a mess. The writers did not do much to differentiate Ranveer Singh's and Varun Sharma's double-role characters."
While the reviews and day one collection are surely disappointing, we hope that the film picks up pace in the coming days.
