With his most recent film Pathaan, which was helmed by Siddharth Anand, Shah Rukh Khan let Bollywood reintroduce the much-needed masala. Since its January 25 release, the spy thriller—in which Deepika Padukone and John Abraham also play key roles—has broken numerous box office records. It won't be shocking if the movie ends up becoming the most popular Bollywood film in recent times because moviegoers have been showing the movie a tonne of love. All the fans of SRK got to see him on the big screens in a rusty, massy, and action avatar.
The movie made approximately Rs 500 Cr at the international box office in the first five days of its release and about Rs 300 Cr net domestically. The number is the highest since the pandemic. After a surprising Rs 57 crore on the first day, the movie made Rs 70 crore on its second day, Rs 39 crore on its third day, and Rs 53 crore during the weekend. According to early estimates, it made Rs 62 crore on its fifth day. The action movie has amassed an incredible Rs 281 crore in box office receipts, surpassing the Rs 280 crore milestone in India alone. Pathaan is also the historically quickest movie to enter the Rs. 200 crores club too.
Shah Rukh Khan is relieved and happy to see Pathaan's statistics after a four-year absence from the film industry. Zero and Jab Harry Met Sejal, two of his previous films, were not particularly successful at the box office. It's also good news for Bollywood, considering there weren't many blockbusters there last year and even fewer grossed over Rs 200 crore. For those who are unfamiliar, "Pathaan" stars John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, and Shah Rukh Khan and is a part of Aditya Chopra's ambitious spy universe.
