Vicky Kaushal's next film Sam Bahadur is based on the life of Sam Manekshaw, a renowned Indian military officer. The movie stars Vicky Kaushal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanya Malhotra in lead roles. The film is directed by Meghna Gulzar. 

Who was Sam Manekshaw?

Sam Manekshaw was India's first field marshal, the senior most military rank. Born in 1914, he was the Chief of the Army staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. Sam Manekshaw was born in Amritsar, Punjab in pre-Independence India and joined the British Indian army in 1932. He was given the name 'Bahadur' by soldiers of the 8th Gorkha Rifles where he was reassigned after Independence in 1947.

Sam Manekshaw's Military Career 

Manekshaw fought 5 wars, starting with the World War ll. Also, he played a crucial role in the Indo-Pak war of 1947, Indi-sino war of 1962 and Indo-Pak wars of 1971. During the Indo-Pak War, in 1971, he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.

Sam Manekshaw's Achievements 

Sam Manekshaw was awarded the Padma Bhushan and Military cross.

He is known to have escaped death or many occasions. During the second world war, Manekshaw suffered serious bullet injuries in his stomach and saved by an Australian surgeon. He died at the age of 94 due to complications from pneumonia.

About Sam Bahadur 

In Sam Bahadur, Vicky is playing the role of Sam Manekshaw. The movie is directed by Meghna Gulzar. It is a biopic of Sam Manekshaw and will chronicle his life and career, including his role in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war. The film will be released in theatres worldwide on December 1.
