Prime Video today announced the global premiere of the much-awaited drama-thriller Jalsa, directed by Tumhari Sulu (2017) fame Suresh Triveni. The film is written by Prajwal Chandrashekar and Suresh Triveni, with dialogues by Hussain and Abbas Dalal. Jalsa is jointly produced by Bhushan Kumar & Krishan Kumar (T-Series), Vikram Malhotra & Shikhaa Sharma (Abundantia Entertainment), and Suresh Triveni.
Vidya Balan, who plays the main lead, is joined by another powerful performer Shefali Shah in the lead role. The two are collaborating for the first time in a film. Vidya takes on the role of a television journalist, while Shefali takes on the role of a cook. The movie is described as a social drama-thriller about class differences. The story's climax is said to be what happens when Shefali's son dies in an accident.
T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment have collaborated to produce the film which also stars Rohini Hattangadi, Iqbal Khan, Vidhatri Bandi, Gurpal Singh, and Surya Kasibhatla, with Manav Kaul in a special appearance.

Vidya Balan is one of the most well-known Bollywood actresses who has made OTT platforms her own. Shakuntala Devi (2020) and Sherni (2021), her previous two films, both skipped the theatres and premiered on OTT, specifically, Amazon Prime Video.
