In a recent interview, the veteran director opened up about facing trouble with his stomach in 2003. This was the time he had finished shooting for ‘Lakshya’ which stars Hrithik Roshan. He suffered terrible pain during the shoot of ‘Subhash Chandra Bose’. He was admitted to Nanavati Hospital just a day after Diwali. He shared how he was operated on and many complications occurred. He was then diagnosed with stomach cancer. He shared how filmmaker Anurag Kashyap stood by him.

Sham shared how during these tough times he had suicidal thoughts. It was when the action director had to shoot in November but was hospitalised in October. Saying, “I had even decided that I would end my life by jumping off the third floor because I couldn’t live like that. But I could not get off the bed because my stomach had been operated on. I told God, ‘Please end this. I don’t have any regrets. I came from a small village and by your grace, I lived a good life. If you want to save me, don’t make me weak.’ After that, I was at peace.”

He then shared how the next day after he signed out of the film he got a text. “’Sir, only you will do this film and we will wait for it.’ And he waited.” Sham Kaushal revealed how that director was none other than Anurag Kashyap.
