Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, and other actors are featured in ‘The Kerala Story’, which has had great success at the box office. At the domestic box office, the Sudipto Sen-directed movie has succeeded in grossing more than Rs 200 crore. In 2023, the movie became the second-biggest hit after Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan. ‘The Kerala Story’ was a box office success but was the subject of a significant controversy before it even hit theatres. According to reports, the movie is still unpopular in some states. Kangana Ranaut has since made a response.
According to a news outlet, Kangana Ranaut referred to the film's suspension as being "unconstitutional." Kangana Ranaut told reporters in Haridwar that The Kerala Story was approved by the Central Board of Film Certification and that to prohibit the movie would be to offend the constitution. She reportedly said, "Banning a film, which has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) amounts to insulting the constitution. The ban on ‘The Kerala Story’ by some states is not correct." She continued by saying that if the censor board has authorised the movie, no one should object.
The actress from ‘Emergency’ also spoke on how the success of films like ‘The Kerala Story’ only benefits the movie business. She said that critics of Bollywood films have long voiced their concerns. She stated: "The films, which people like to watch and appreciate, only benefit the film industry. People always have complaints with the Bollywood film industry, as to the kind of films they want to watch, such films are not made and once these films are created, they are appreciated by a mass audience."
‘The Kerala Story’ has received tremendous success, and Adah Sharma and her crew are thrilled. In just 18 days, the movie earned more than Rs 200 crore at the box office, and business is continuing brisk. The protagonist of the tale is a Keralan girl named Shalini who underwent brainwashing and conversion to Islam. She is then brought to ISIS, where she endures severe brutality. The plot, according to the creators, is based on actual events. When the producers asserted that 32000 women had been radicalised, there was debate. Many people disagreed with it. Producing the movie is Vipul Amrutlal Shah.
