Shilpa Shetty's career was in a slump in the mid-2000s, but the actress' decision to participate in the UK-based reality show Big Brother transformed the way her fans saw her. Shilpa Shetty, who rose to fame in the 1990s with films like Baazigar (1993) and Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), became a household name after winning the celebrity reality show. The actress recently revealed that long before Big Brother's Indian version, Bigg Boss, became popular, she was first terrified of the show.
Shilpa stated in an interview that after watching a few older episodes, she became anxious about the show. She said, “I saw a couple of episodes and I got scared with what I saw. I said I am not going to do all of this. So my contract was very watertight. My mother told them very clearly ‘Listen we are Indians, and we won’t do this baring all and all of that.’”
She also stated that, despite the fact that the show was scheduled to run for four weeks, she only expected to be on for two weeks. She recounted her 'landslide' triumph in the competition, claiming it was due to the overwhelming support she received from the UK's South Asian population. “Not just Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, all desi. So they really went out there, and voted for me. I won by 64%,” concluded the 47-year-old actress.
On the work front, Shilpa Shetty will be next in Nikamma alongside Abhimanyu Dassani and Shirley Setia.
