Shamshera (2022), directed by Karan Malhotra, debuted in theatres on July 22. The film, which starred Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in the key roles, performed miserably at the box office. The film had a poor opening weekend, and its earnings dropped by another 65% on Monday. In a statement on Instagram on Wednesday, Karan addressed the film's failure and stated that he 'couldn't face the hate and rage' that followed.

In response to Shamshera's failure, Karan posted a note on Twitter which read, “My Dearest Shamshera, you are majestic the way you are. It is important for me to express myself on this platform because here is where all the love, the hate, the celebration and the humiliation exists for you. I want to unimaginably apologise to you for abandoning you for these past few days as I could not handle the hate and rage."

Shamshera's failure has shocked the whole film industry, as trade analysts had predicted that the Ranbir Kapoor blockbuster would earn over Rs 50 crore in its opening weekend.

A report claims that after seeing a significant loss of 65 percent on Monday, Shamshera's box office performance continued to decline on Tuesday, its fifth day. The film's total revenue as of Tuesday was 36 crore, an increase of just 2.50 crore.
