Starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur in principal roles, Jersey was one of the highly awaited films of 2021. After facing some setbacks, the sports-drama was finally set to enter theatres on 31st December, 2021. However, the sudden surge in coronavirus cases all across India threw a wrench into the works and the makers had no choice but delay the film further.

Soon after its postponement, rumours started doing the rounds on the internet that the makers were planning to release the film on an OTT platform. On the other hand, some media outlets report that Shahid Kapoor had taken a pay cut from his acting fee of ₹31 crore in order to ensure that the film not be released digitally.

However, a well-placed source tells a publication that the rumours of Kapoor slashing his fee for Jersey hold no truth.

“There is no truth to this rumour about Shahid Kapoor taking a pay cut. Anyone can say anything, but the only fact is that the film has been postponed for now,” said the source.

The source goes on to add, “Shahid is keen that this film releases in theatres, hence there is less chance of Jersey skipping a theatrical release.”

Jersey is the official remake of the critically and commercially successful Telugu film of the same name. Filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri, who directed the original, has helmed the remake as well.
