Jersey, a sports drama starring Shahid Kapoor, was set to release on April 14th. However, the producers stated a week before the film's release that it would be postponed. The reason for the delay has sparked a lot of speculation, with some claiming that the filmmakers sought to prevent a clash with the Kannada film KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), which has received a lot of advance bookings.
Jersey's producer has now revealed that the film was delayed due to a court issue. According to the film's producer, Aman Gill, the film found itself in legal trouble after writer Rajneesh Jaiswal alleged that Jersey was plagiarised from his script. The Bombay High Court has finally ruled in favour of the film's producers, and it will be released on April 22.
Gill said in an interview, "We were all geared up to release our film Jersey this holiday weekend, however, we didn’t want to go ahead and plan a release until the courts gave us a favourable order, and with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, we had no time to plan for the Thursday release hence we decided to postpone the release by a week to 22nd April till we got such an order. Today on Wednesday we got a favourable order, which clears the way for our release next week 22nd April."
Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapur star in Jersey. The film follows a washed-up cricketer as he strives to reclaim his pride and self-worth by returning to the cricket pitch. The film had already been postponed. It was slated to come out on December 31, 2021, however it was pushed back due to an increase of Omicron cases in India.
