Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, has been postponed yet again. The film's original release date of April 14th has been moved back a week. It is unclear why this choice was made. Gowtam Tinnanuri directed the film, which stars Pankaj Kapur and is produced by Dil Raju, S. Naga Vamsi, and Aman Gill. The producer said in an official statement, “As a team, we have put our blood sweat and tears into ‘Jersey’ and would like our beloved film to reach all of you in the widest possible way. Jersey will now release on 22nd April.”
Two blockbuster south films are due to hit theatres this week: Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 and Vijay's Beast. While Prashanth Neel's film is a follow-up to the immensely successful KGF (2018), Vijay's fans are eagerly anticipating his next. Both films are predicted to be successful in India.
Jersey is a remake of the same-named National Award-winning Telugu film from 2019, which starred Nani in the main role. Gowtam Tinnanuri directed both the original Telugu film and the Hindi adaptation. In the film, Shahid Kapoor plays Arjun Talwar, a former cricketer who returns to the game to fulfil his son's ambition for a jersey. Mrunal will portray Shahid's wife Vidya Talwar, while Pankaj will play Arjun's coach Madhav Sharma.
The film was originally set to be released in theatres on August 28, 2020, and then again on November 5, 2021, until the COVID-19 pandemic forced a postponement. Later, the filmmakers decided to release the film in theatres on December 31, 2021, but it was postponed indefinitely owing to the Omicron variant spread.
