The actor wrote on Twitter, "Of course, I myself love South Indian films. Watched so many, especially during the lockdown. Now more than ever, everyone can understand the idea of films. So Indian art and artists shouldn't be limited in any way. And thank you, I really love you all."

People on social media had different thoughts about Shahid's first comment. In an earlier interview, he told the South Indian audience that they should like Hindi pictures just as much as they liked South Indian films. He thought that there shouldn't be any divisions or limits in film, and he stressed the need for an open mind and acceptance.

Shahid said in an interview, "I don't think we should draw any lines, and I would say to the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada audiences, "You should also watch Hindi films, because the Hindi public loves your films." So, you should let our works in too, so that cinema can grow. Everyone should have an open mind and accept each other. I think everyone should work together and add more value, so more people will go to the theatres. But everyone should think the same."
