According to reports, Sara Ali Khan has signed on to star in Dharmatic Entertainment and Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming patriotic drama Aye Watan Mere Watan. The project, which had been in news for several months, was officially announced on Thursday at an event in Mumbai.

If reports are to be believed, Sara Ali Khan is set to play freedom fighter Usha Mehta in her biopic. Kannan Iyer, who previously directed Ek Thi Daayan (2013), is expected to helm the project. If all goes well, Aye Watan Mere Watan will take off the ground in August 2022 and will have a direct-to-digital release on Amazon Prime Video.

Announcing the film officially, Amazon Prime Video India on Thursday wrote on Instagram, “Inspired by the true story of a young girl and her unique role in the fight for India’s independence.” The streaming media giant, however, did not reveal the cast of the upcoming film.

For those not in the know, Usha Mehta was famous for running an underground radio station – called Congress Radio, to amplify the Quit India movement. She believed in Gandhian thought and philosophy. The veteran died on 11 August, 2000, at the age of 80.
