Runway 34, directed by Ajay Devgn, is due to hit theaters soon. Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rakul Preet Singh star in the film. The project was originally titled MayDay when it was first conceived and shot. After the film's post-production began, the title was altered. In a recent interview, Ajay explained why he and his team decided to make the switch.

The story revolves around a plane that is unable to arrive at the airport owing to terrible weather. Ajay and Rakul play the pilots of the plane, while Amitabh plays the officer who later investigates the tragedy. MayDay is an emergency procedure word that is used as a distress signal in navigation and aviation, which is why it was chosen as the film's title to convey the sense of urgency. Ajay, on the other hand, claimed that he later realized that no one was aware of this.

Ajay said in an interview, "Well, it was a funny case. People didn't have an understanding of the title, and the impromptu landing. We thought during the promotion, it would be clear. However, one fine day, a very, very educated senior man asked if it was about Labour Day or something? That’s when I felt the need to change the title of the film."

The team eventually decided on Runway 34 as the title. This, according to Ajay, is because that particular runway is crucial to the plot. He continued, "Runway 34 fitted perfectly, because when you see the film the whole story revolves around Runway 34, every airport has a different number for their runway and then you’d realise why he chose the wrong runway.”

The true story of the Jet Airways Doha-Kochi flight in 2015 is reported to have inspired Runway 34. On April 29, 2022 the film will hit the theatres
